Luban is the ancestor of Chinese craftsmen, and Luban Workshop is a world-famous brand of vocational education initiated and implemented by Tianjin. In 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum to build a closer China-Africa community with a shared future. He clearly proposed to set up 10 Luban Workshops in Africa to provide vocational skills training to African youth.

Tianjin is the only modem vocational education reform and innovation demonstration zone in China in July 2019. under the guidance of MoE of China: Tianjin Municipal government decided to establish a high-level Luban Workshop project in Ethiopia, creating a benchmark and model project for Luban Workshops in Africa. in October 2019, TUTE and ETU signed a MoU of cooperation to establish Luban Workshop in Ethiopia.

Known as "the cradle of training vocational teachers in China", TUTE is the earliest leading university featuring vocational education in China. Ethiopia is the country where the AU headquarters and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) are located.

Ethiopian Technical University (ETU) is the only University in Ethiopia training TVET teachers and cultivating both TVET teachers and technicians for East Africa. Starting from 2007. TUTE and ETU support each other and more than 1000 teachers and students have exchanged in joint programs with the strong support from Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education of Ethiopia, TUTE and ETU have taken scientific planning, carried out rigorous research, organized seminars, conducted mutual visits, and jointly formed a team of experts with extensive teaching and research experience and actively promoted the construction of the workshop.

Ethiopian Luban Workshop specializes in the field of Artificial Intelligence, connecting 3 undergraduate majors of Manufacturing Technology, Electronics and Communication Technology Electrical and Control Technology of ETU. The contents involve four areas of Industrial Sensor Technology, Mechatronics Technology, industrial Control technology and Industrial Robotics Technology, serving Ethiopia's industry ab development goal of "becoming the manufacturing center of Africa by 2025

Ethiopian Luban Workshop is located in Mechatronics building of the ETU, coveting an area of 830 M2. It can accommodate 96 people at the same time for teaching, training and vocational skills identification. Adopting the teaching mode of EPIR; Luban Workshop is equipped with world-advanced, industry-leading equipment that takes into account the actual production in enterprises and teaching and training of universities. in terms of teaching resources of Luban Workshop. TUTE has formulated 3 stets of international professional teaching standards, developed 4 sets of bilingual textbooks, 4 sets of EPIP teaching schemes and video tutorials. in November 2020, TUTE conducted professional training for the first batch of teachers from ETU. The training team was led by national and municipal skill masters in China, together with Chinese technical teachers in Ethiopia, conducting training and provide guidance in the skills training.

in March 2021, TUTE conducted 100 hours of advanced training to 3 PhDs and 4 Masters from ETU: who will be the backbone teachers of Luban Workshop upon their return to Ethiopia.
The training adopted the course books recommended by the project of "Taking Chinese Culture to the Global Stage" published in the UK. The training provides theoretical knowledge. technical application, skill operation, EPIP teaching mode and application methods. China-Africa friendship is everlasting. From the original projects in Tianjin to the national ones; from skills training to academic education, Ethiopian Luban Workshop is dedicated to constructing the teacher-training base for African Luban Workshops; promoting the construction systems of African Luban Workshops.: making the Chinese contribution to African "2063 Vision", to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and realize the dream of common prosperity and development of China and Africa.
