Meet Ngale Daka, a young creative with big ambitions. 💚
Ngale is a Grade 9 learner at Matero Girls’ Secondary School in Lusaka, Zambia, and she has a passion for graphic design.
Thanks to the support of Camara Education Zambia and Lenovo ,Ngale has access to computers at school where she can develop her digital skills and explore her creativity.

“My favourite thing to do is graphic designing. Thanks to Camara Education and Lenovo, I now have access to these computers in our lab, which helps me learn digital skills and bring my creative ideas to life.”

On this International Day of the Girl Child, Ngale’s story reminds us why access to technology matters. It’s not just about learning to use a computer. It’s about giving girls the tools and confidence to explore their interests and discover what they can achieve.

The talent is already there. The opportunity should be too.

This World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate the teachers at the heart of digital education.

Mary Ngobola is an ICT teacher at Kamulanga Secondary School in Lusaka, Zambia. In this video, she shares her experience of teaching and her work with learners.

At Camara Education, we know that technology’s impact begins with the teachers who bring it into everyday learning. Mary’s story is an opportunity to hear directly from one of those teachers.

Watch Mary’s story as we recognise the dedication of teachers across Zambia and beyond.

AI in education: looking at the opportunities as well as the challenges
There is a lot of discussion about AI in education right now, much of it, understandably, focused on the risks and challenges.

But it is equally important to look at how AI can be used positively, practically and responsibly.

In July, 227 teachers from 12 schools in Makueni, Kenya, took part in Camara Education’s AI Readiness for Teaching & Learning training. The focus wasn’t simply on introducing teachers to AI, but on helping them use it deliberately, from framing tasks and developing teaching materials in stages, to reviewing outputs, understanding responsible learner use and managing the risks.

The results showed an important distinction between simply having used AI and having the confidence to use it effectively. Before the training, only 19% of teachers who had previously used AI to create teaching materials described themselves as confident in doing so effectively.

Following the training, teacher confidence in creating materials increased to 81%, while 98% of participants rated the training as useful overall.

Alongside this work, Camara has also developed its Offline AI Education Assistant, designed for public schools that cannot rely on constant internet access or paid subscriptions. Following further development and localisation, the Assistant was piloted in two public secondary schools in Kenya between January and March 2026 with support from the FCDO-funded UK-Kenya AI Challenge Fund.

For us, these are two parts of the same challenge: how do we help teachers use AI effectively and responsibly, while also making sure that schools with fewer resources aren’t excluded from its potential benefits?

As the debate around AI continues, the risks matter. But so does exploring where the technology can make a positive and practical contribution to education.

A new Digital Learning Centre is taking shape at Kalenga Secondary School in Iringa, Tanzania.
As part of the Connecting the Unconnected project, funded by Helios Towers Tanzania, our Camara Education Tanzania team is busy installing a new centre at the school.

The finished centre will include 25 networked computers and a local educational server loaded with offline learning content, so students and teachers can access educational resources even when internet connectivity is limited.

As the photos show, the room isn’t quite finished yet. But some of Kalenga’s students were so eager to see what our team was doing, and to lend a hand, that we couldn’t turn them away. With our team supervising and making sure everything was done safely, their curiosity became part of the installation.

It’s exactly the kind of enthusiasm we love to see. We’re looking forward to seeing what they do when the centre is fully up and running.

Another container is on its way to Africa.
This latest shipment is heading to Zambia, carrying IT equipment that will be given a second life supporting digital learning in schools.

Once it arrives, our Camara Education Zambia team will prepare the equipment for use in schools, helping more students and teachers access technology and build essential digital skills.

A practical example of how responsible IT reuse can create lasting educational impact.

Another school connected to digital learning in Tanzania.
Mkali Secondary School in Ruvuma has opened a new Digital Learning Centre as part of the Nasoma project, delivered by Camara Education Tanzania in partnership with the Ministry of Education and TAMISEMI.
The centre is equipped with 26 desktop computers, a local network, projector, smart TV, whiteboard, maintenance kit and internet connectivity. It will support 215 students and 13 teachers, giving them access to digital tools and resources within the school.
Mkali is the second school in Nyasa District to receive a fully equipped Digital Learning Centre through the project.
Our Tanzania Country Director, Dayani Mbowe, joined students, teachers, parents and local government representatives for the launch, alongside Hon. John Nchimbi, MP for Nyasa.
It’s another practical step towards expanding access to digital education in rural communities, and connecting schools that have too often been left on the wrong side of the digital divide.

Literacy is changing.
Reading and writing remain fundamental, but being able to use technology confidently is increasingly part of how young people learn, access information and participate in the world around them.

Across Camara Education, we work with schools and teachers to make digital learning accessible and useful, providing technology, building teachers’ skills and helping young people develop the confidence to use it.

These photos come from Oloimugi Primary School in Manyara, Tanzania, where Camara Education Tanzania is working with Imagine Worldwide through the MsingiTek Project.

On International Literacy Day, it’s a good reminder that digital skills are becoming an essential part of learning, and of opening up opportunities for the future.

18th of August marked a special milestone for Camara Education Ethiopia as ETH 99, our 99th container shipment of digital learning equipment to Ethiopia, was successfully unloaded.
Every piece of equipment that arrives is carefully counted, tested, checked and prepared by our team before it reaches a school, helping ensure that the technology we provide is ready to support teaching and learning from day one.

Through our digital learning and AI education programmes, Camara Education Ethiopia works alongside schools and the Ministry of Education to bring computers, teacher training and digital learning tools into classrooms, helping make learning more practical, engaging and relevant for the future.

The arrival of ETH 99 comes as schools prepare for the new Ethiopian academic year (2019 EC), ready to begin another year of learning and opportunity.

Every container represents much more than equipment. It means more schools with access to technology, more teachers able to integrate digital tools into their teaching, and more students with opportunities to build the skills they will need for the future.

99 containers and thousands of opportunities to learn, explore and grow.
