Happy International Day from Ethio-China International School!

​Today, we celebrate the beautiful tapestry of human speech. With 40% of the global population lacking access to education in a language they speak or understand, the mission to integrate mother tongues into the classroom has never been more vital.

​At -China International School ( ) in Addis Ababa, we aren't just observing this day—we are living it. We believe that a student’s first language is the strongest bridge to learning and identity.
​Our Multilingual Commitment
​We are actively fostering an environment where Amharic, Chinese (Mandarin), and Ethiopian local languages coexist to create global citizens who remain deeply rooted in their heritage.
​Trilingual Excellence: We integrate Amharic and Chinese into our core interactions, ensuring students master the language of their home and the language of future global opportunity.

​Honoring Local Roots:
Beyond the federal working languages, we celebrate the diverse linguistic landscape of Ethiopia—from Afaan Oromo and Af-Soomaali to Tigrinya and Sidama—recognizing that every local tongue carries unique wisdom.

Actionable Initiatives at ECIS

​We are bridging the gap between local culture and international standards by:
​Localized Curriculum Support: Ensuring our Grade 7-12 students can conceptualize complex ideas through the lens of their primary languages.
​Cultural Exchange: Using Chinese language studies to build international bridges while using Amharic to maintain a strong Ethiopian foundation.

​Digital Inclusion: Supporting the digitalization of learning materials in multiple Ethiopian languages to ensure no student in Addis Ababa or beyond is sidelined by a language barrier.

​Vision 2027: Our goal is to expand our linguistic reach, ensuring that quality education at Ethio-China International School is never limited by a language barrier. When we speak to a student in a language they understand, we reach their head; when we speak in their mother tongue, we reach their heart.
