Our wish is for us as educators to do all we can to help students become agents for change to put us on a better track. We can’t do it all, but neither can we neglect our opportunity to strengthen the next generation. This doesn’t mean telling students what to think; but it does mean empowering them to focus on issues they know are important in their lives, creating occasions and structures to inquire, think, and research about those issues — and then for them to take action based on what they’ve learned. This way they’ll have the skills and the willingness to improve their communities.
