An important message from our member agency Au Pair in Mallorca.
Dear Au Pairs,
now this is SERIOUS for you all and we won't charge you if you ask us for help: we had an Au Pair in our office telling us she came as Au Pair to Mallorca and ended up working as a waitress. She was made sign a work contract in Spanish she didn't understand but signed it because she thought it had to do with her Au Pair program. Well, it didn't. It was a work contract to be a part time waitress, even when she was working about 8 hours per day (which is full time). This is UNACCEPTABLE. If you come as Au Pair, there are NO working contracts to be signed. As you may imagine, she was paid as an Au Pair and not as a waitress. She told us she was working with 2 other young girls.
If anything like this happens to you when you come to Mallorca to be an au pair, contact US and do not sign anything you don't understand.
Au pairs are NOT workers under Spanish legislation and there is no working contract to be signed.
If you are in the same situation, call us or come to our office in Palma. If the person asking you to sign (host mum in this case) makes you feel obliged to sign it, call us straight the way.
