Please do not eat paella at a touristy restaurant for dinner in Madrid. I mean, you do what makes you happy, but if you want to really explore where paella is from, the only way to do it is on a Sunday afternoon in Valencia.

The Albufera area is a very unique part of Spain and it’s here amongst the rice fields and farms that paella was created.

If you want to do this tour, comment “paella” and I’ll send you a link for 5% off any of the Albufera tours with Get Your Guide.

How To Day Trip To Figueres And The Dalí Museum 12/08/2026

If you like unique art and architecture, a day trip to Figueres from Barcelona is for you!

Figueres is the city of Salvador Dalí, the ostentatious surrealist artist and the Dalí Theatre-Museum that he designed is, well, pretty crazy.

Figueres also has the largest fortress in Europe (it’s so big you can get lost!), plus some nice parks and other buildings.

Nuns in Spain have sold sweets for centuries and many monasteries still keep the tradition alive today.

The Corpus Christi Monastery Las Carboneras in Madrid is a group of cloistered nuns that you can buy cookies from.

Come with cash and be able to pronounce the cookies you want in Spanish in a loud voice as you call to the nun behind the turnstile.

The cookies come in a nice box, so they are good for gifting as a souvenir, but unfortunately you have to buy a lot and they are not cheap. However, it’s not every day that you can buy cookies from cloistered nuns, so I definitely think it’s worth your money for this unique experience in Madrid!

🌎 These places are well-known, but I’ve found them to be worth the travel hype.

🌍 Unfortunately, the more popular they are the more overtourism is an issue, but if you are able to visit in the off-season they places are magical!

🌏 Let me know if you agree and what other places you’d say definitely live up to their reputation 👇

Well this is definitely one travel experience that makes me nervous.😳

The correfoc (fire run) is a Valencian (Spanish) tradition where participants dress as devils and spray the crowd with fire in a sort of purification ritual. I don’t know much about it but was very glad I wasn’t watching it from down below!

If you are Valencian I’d love to hear more about this tradition 👇

🥵 Need to cool off? Madrid has pools, but if you head to the mountains near Cercedilla you’ll find Las Piscinas Naturales Berceas. The temperature is substantially cooler than in Madrid, and the water, too!

🎟️ On the weekends you need to plan ahead, buying tickets online and maybe taking the bus lanzadora from the town because parking spots are limited.

This is definitely worth a day trip from Madrid!

One of the things I love most about living in Madrid is the zest for life that Spaniards have.

Life is lived on the streets, in cafés, walking around and with a constant hum. It’s a feeling I can’t quite put into words, but if you come to Madrid I think you’ll feel it too. 😊

📱 I’m excited to announce that a new platform called Locallista has just launced in Madrid!

🇪🇸 There’s an invite link in my bio for you to explore this app that makes it easier for internationals to find help in their language in Madrid.

💡 I’m doing a paid partnership with Locallista because I love the idea of an app that helps you find services tailored to your language and culture!
