Transition Year students in five Mayo Gaeltacht post-primary schools are set to take part in Gaeliomána, a new two-year initiative that blends Irish language, sport, culture, and media to bring Gaeilge to life in everyday ways.

It will run in:
• Gaelcholáiste Chomáin
• St Brendan’s College, Belmullet
• Convent of Mercy, Belmullet
• Coláiste Muire Túr Mhic Éadaigh
• Coláiste Pobail Acla

🏑 Hurling coaching & club placements

📝 Students can sit the TEG Irish exam and earn coaching/nutrition module certificates

💬 Why It Matters

Minister Dara Calleary says the link between sport and language is a powerful driver for young people in Gaeltacht communities — and Gaeliomána helps create more real opportunities for teenagers to use Irish confidently.

MSLETB notes the programme offers TY students “something fresh and exciting”, showing Gaeilge as a living, social, creative language connected to real experiences.

Flying to Spain this Easter? Expect possible disruption across multiple major airports — including Málaga and Alicante.

⚠️ What’s happening?

Two major ground-handling companies are involved:

🧳 Groundforce (partial strikes)
📅 Starting March 27 (indefinite)
🗓️ Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday
⏰ Time slots:
• 05:00–07:00
• 11:00–17:00
• 22:00–00:00 

🛄 Menzies Aviation (full-day strikes)
📅 March 28–29
📅 April 2–6 (peak Semana Santa) 

✈️ Which airports are affected?

This is NOT just Málaga, strikes are expected across Spain, including:

• Málaga
• Alicante
• Madrid
• Barcelona
• Palma de Mallorca
• Valencia
• Seville
• Canary & Balearic Islands 

🚨 What to expect:

❗ Flight delays & possible cancellations
❗ Long queues (check-in, baggage, boarding)
❗ Baggage handling delays

Disruption could be widespread during Easter travel peaks. 

🧠 Travel tips:

✔️ Check your flight status regularly
✔️ Arrive at least 2–3 hours early (more if possible)
✔️ Keep essentials in your carry-on (documents, meds, clothes)
✔️ Allow extra time for connections

💸 If your flight is disrupted, you may be entitled to compensation under EU261.

Negotiations are ongoing — strikes could change, escalate, or be cancelled last minute.
