🤝 Honoured to Attend the SIBN Málaga Inauguration & Advocate for Safer TY Programmes.

It was a pleasure to attend the inauguration of the Málaga chapter of SIBN and an honour to meet Ambassador Brian Glynn and Consul General Marylee Wall, as well as local established TY providers in Spain, including Valerie Jeffries (Coin) and long-standing collaborator Mairi Murphy (www.tyexperience.com).

I have watched this sector grow into a multi-million-euro market serving thousands of unaccompanied Irish teens annually. However, because these short-term stays operate as private commercial bookings, significant operational, medical consent, and legal custody gaps exist on the ground in Spain.

Operating as an Independent TY Consultant (2026) alongside nationwide experienced collaborators, my goal is not to discourage travel, but to equip schools and parents with clear risk-mitigation frameworks and more inclusive, compatible options to align with your TY Programme.

Transition Year students in five Mayo Gaeltacht post-primary schools are set to take part in Gaeliomána, a new two-year initiative that blends Irish language, sport, culture, and media to bring Gaeilge to life in everyday ways.

It will run in:
• Gaelcholáiste Chomáin
• St Brendan’s College, Belmullet
• Convent of Mercy, Belmullet
• Coláiste Muire Túr Mhic Éadaigh
• Coláiste Pobail Acla
