Hi all, just before I go on holiday for a couple of weeks I wanted to give a tip to any self-employed teachers here.
. . .
I've seen a few people ask about how to integrate payments with scheduling and LMS so I thought I would give my experience after 7 years of teaching online.
I used to use a mix of Acuity Scheduling, with Google Classroom and then Wave for invoicing but it was a pain constantly flicking from one program to the other. Plus my students had to navigate both Acuity and Google Classroom which was difficult for non-native speakers of English.
A few months ago I did a free trial with Tutorbird and it's much better. It integrates Zoom directly, students can book a lesson from your calendar or you can set up recurring appointments for them and you can make invoices either based on monthly appointments or you can sell packages. It also has LMS, so students get their own account with their own calendar and they can see all of their lessons, payments, and class notes as well as homework. It takes a few hours to set everything up but once that's done you can automate everything and it's saved me a ton of time on invoicing and taxes.
I teach both groups and individuals, and I have 3 different payments options; pay monthly, pay as you go, and packages. I've asked my students what they think and they said it is way easier to use and it looks more professional. If you'd like to try it out, I'll leave a referral link below: https://app.tutorbird.com/r/share/02075023B7
*The referral link gives you a month's free trial with no obligation to pay anything. If you like the app and want to continue using it, I will also get a free month but only if you sign up for a paid account.
I hope this helps some of you with streamlining your business

Anyone here is Zoom for their lessons??? Let's hope students don't get in on this 🤣🤣🤣
Zoom Escaper lets you sabotage your own meetings with audio problems, crying babies, and more
Drop the call, and pick up your life.

Have you tried Blookets yet??? It's great to play with groups and individuals. The best part is you don't have to make games from scratch because you can import vocab sets from Quizlet! Oh, and it's FREE! 👩🏫🧑🏫👨🎓🧑🎓👩🎓

Here's a Language Goals Chart that I use to keep students (and myself) motivated to study. It only takes 7 days to make something a habit so if they can keep it up for a week, it will help foster good study habits 👩🏫👨🎓🧠✍️🗣

Just a quick one today folks :👩🏫👨🏫🙂
This is a great tool I use to check if my students have used copy&paste. It's a Google Extension called Draftback and it allows you to see the editing history of Google Docs. The green writing in the picture has been copied and pasted. Link is below 👇👇👇

So an individual student requested a lesson on 'swearing' yesterday. He's mid 50's, advanced level, and an avid gamer. His main goal was to able to swear back at the teens he's playing against 😂😂😂
Bit of an awkward moment when I taught him the word 'do**he' and he asked what it meant... 😆🤪😳 Mortified.
What's the cringiest word you've had to explain to a student?
