Yes. I had many broken pieces out of the kiln. Had to do with my patience or a lack of it. So I made them again. Wall sculptures which are coming soon. But many more stages to go. And while I started over. I thought about starting over. Just do it.

I love these places with a soul. Not because they’re luxurious. But they make a statement. They have courage. And above all identity in a copy-paste world.
The El Fenn art shop is amazing. We need more of these art shops around the world. It makes it a better place. Agree?
Do we need more real art shops instead of all Zara’s and Dunkin Donuts like shops destroying cities?

Has art a meaning?
Well what you create comes from somewhere. At least what I create.
I think I make something to help others to understand something.
I think my totems are about identity. Standing for something. Courage. And they need the negative space to have the impact they have in a space.
Negative space gives its shape, tension and meaning.
So never neglect the negative.
Sometimes, what isn’t there or what surrounds you is what makes everything else visible.

The Story of a Totem

I’ll piece it together as a metaphor for life.

A marker.

Built layer by layer just out of clay with my hands in the hills of Andalusia.
Built as a statement against mass consumption. Materialism. To remind you to stand out. Don’t go with the masses. Carry on. Remember you to continue and grow. In every moment of your life. Buy items with a meaning. Not soulless mass produced chemical products.

My totems are not only sculptures but have a sense of identity and belonging.

Do you prefer unique items above mass produced? Is there a difference in how they feel? Their energy in a room?

A totem is a visual language.
A personal sign.
A life’s story built of individual pieces.

What we collect, what we choose is who we are.
