You're 45, 55, 65, and thinking about Muay Thai. Do it. Here's how, without hurting yourself.
The assumption is that Muay Thai is for lean 22-year-olds who want to get punched. It isn't. At oure gym happily train older people for fitness, and it might be the best thing you do for your body here.
Why it works so well past 45: · It's a total-body workout, cardio, strength, coordination, all at once · The pad work, hitting pads held by a trainer, is genuinely addictive and burns fat fast · It builds the balance and mobility that actually matter as you age · One-on-one trainer sessions are cheap here compared to anywhere else in the Europ·
The key: you do NOT have to fight, spar, or get hit. This is the myth that stops people. The vast majority of older trainees never spar. You do the training, the fitness side: shadow boxing, pad work, bag work, conditioning. All the reward, none of the getting punched in the face. Just tell us at the gym clearly: fitness only, no sparring. We hear it constantly and are completely fine with it.
How to start sensibly: · Book a private session to try out. A trainer will scale everything to you. · Be honest about injuries, old knees, backs, shoulders. A good trainer works around them. · Go easy on the shins early. Kicking pads hurts until your legs adapt. Build up. · Hydrate like it's your job. You're training in the heat now.
The realistic expectation: you'll be sore, you'll be terrible for the first few weeks, and you'll love it anyway. Two or three sessions a week will transform your fitness, and there's something quietly wonderful about learning the national sport of Thailand , at any age.
Nobody at the gym is judging the 60-year-old on the pads. They're impressed you showed up.
