I Tested 5 Spanish Apps for 3 Months: Here's What Actually Worked 08/05/2025

Alfred Gómez, a high school student prepping for college, tried 5 Spanish learning apps to see what actually works.

He tested Duolingo, Babbel, Busuu, Espanido, and Pimsleur - and shared what helped him move beyond classroom Spanish. 👇

“Espanido was the only app that made me think in Spanish, not just tap answers.”

Why most Spanish language apps are secretly sabotaging your learning 12/12/2024

Why have you been studying Spanish for months (or even years) but still struggle to hold a conversation? Most learning platforms create an illusion of progress and use tricks keeping you stuck!

Why most Spanish language apps are secretly sabotaging your learning Have you ever spent months — maybe even years — using those language learning apps, only to feel like a deer in headlights when it’s time…

The 4 stages of learning Spanish grammar 😂

1. “This looks easy!”
You’re cruising through the basics: “Hola,” “¿Cómo estás?” You feel unstoppable, like you’ll be fluent by next week. Spanish grammar? A breeze!

2. “Wait, what’s a subjunctive?”
Then it hits you. Verbs change forms you didn’t even know existed, and “subjunctive” sounds like a spell from Harry Potter. Suddenly, Spanish isn’t a walk in the park—it’s a maze.

3. “Okay, I got this. (mostly)”
After practice (and maybe a few breakdowns), things start to click. You can finally form sentences and (mostly) know when to use “por” vs “para.” Sure, you still blank out sometimes, but hey, progress is progress!

4. “Am I secretly fluent now?”
You start surprising yourself. You understand full conversations, throw in idioms like “¡Qué guay!” and only occasionally mix up “ser” and “estar.” Of course, there’s always more to learn, but you’re out there speaking, making jokes, and even thinking in Spanish sometimes.

Which stage are you in right now? 😁
