Yesterday Appleby celebrated Oak Apple Day with a wonderful programme of street theatre, music, dance and historical performances marking the Restoration of the Monarchy.
As a company, we feel a special connection to this period of history. Many of the embroidery antiques we recreate date from the lifetime of Lady Anne Clifford, who spent much of her later life restoring the castles, churches and estates around Appleby after reclaiming her rightful inheritance.
Her legacy can still be seen throughout the town today. The Almshouses she built still stand, and St Lawrence's Church, restored by Lady Anne over 350 years ago, hosted performances from Caroline Moir's Lady Anne Clifford – A Woman Cast Out, alongside music that transported audiences back to the 17th century.
It was a wonderful celebration of local history and an extraordinary woman whose influence can still be felt across Appleby today.

A small glimpse behind the scenes of a very big project ✨
This week we host our 6th Gawthorpe Bedhanging support session with Harriet Roberts (), a project so vast that materials have been sent in two separate shipments. The second part of the kit is now making its way to participants around the world.
Here’s a look at how our team carefully checks the charts, a detailed and time-intensive process, with every element double and triple checked. A huge task, and one we take great care over.
It is made all the more rewarding when we see the extraordinary progress being shared by stitchers across the world, this truly is a remarkable project to be part of.
