GSS24 Bamboo at Work Workshop // 1st - 12th July at Barcelona. Applications deadline 24th June.

Bamboo is being hailed as the material of the future by architects and designers! It’s a super renewable resource perfect for decarbonized and sustainable practices. Used for structural elements or decorative cladding, bamboo is gaining popularity worldwide with products like laminated flooring, facade cladding, and fiber wall systems. 🌿🌍🏠

Join the at work workshop at where we’ll explore bamboo’s potential by designing an installation, . Participants will analyse bamboo types and create architectural designs, from digital to hands on fabrication 📐🛠️

The workshop kicks off with designing drawings, 3D models, physical models, and junction details. During two weeks, participants will be given insightful lectures on bamboo construction, its implications, challenges and potentialites.

The workshop will close with a the final project presentation, along with the GSS diplomas ceremony. 🎓👏

How can urban communities evolve to become more inclusive and resilient in the face of rapid urbanization and socio-economic disparities?

In what ways can participatory planning and community engagement practices be enhanced to empower local communities in shaping their urban environments?

This year the GSS & workshop will explore the integration of public participation with digital innovation in urban design, developing urban analytics for participatory design by collecting and mapping citizen inputs for data driven design of public space. It will equip students with the skills to engage communities and apply technology in co-designing inclusive urban spaces.

By joining this workshop, participants will learn:

> how to manipulate and combine data from different data source and data typologies

> Set up a flexible protocol to analyse different urban contexts in the world

> Creatively represent geospatial data and how to create a web map
