Bonjour ! 💜 I decided to introduce myself again for those who don’t know me.
I’m Maria, a native French teacher from Geneva — who grew up between Kenya and Switzerland, navigating languages, cultures and identities. 🌍
I’ve been teaching French professionally since 2014, after earning my DAEFLE diploma from the Alliance Française. Since then, I’ve had the joy of working with hundreds of students, both online and in person, from complete beginners to advanced speakers building their careers in French.
My approach to teaching is simple: human, inclusive, decolonial and meaningful.
I want my students to feel supported, confident and curious. In my classes, we focus on real communication, culture, understanding, and everything that helps you truly live the language — not just memorize it.
Alongside teaching, I’m also a PhD candidate in human cognition and evolution, with a Master’s degree in the same field. My research explores gender, migration and decoloniality, as well as the ways humans learn and adapt, and this deeply influences my teaching. I’m passionate about creating safe, welcoming learning spaces where every learner feels respected and valued.
I also design and lead workshops and masterclasses on gender awareness, DEI and inclusivity, because I believe language and social understanding go hand in hand.
Why do I love my job?
Because I get to help people progress, discover new perspectives, open new doors, and build — little by little — a better, kinder world together. ✨
If you’re learning French or thinking about starting, bienvenue… I’d be happy to help you on your journey. ❤️
- Maria
