As every year, the youngest members of our research group — together with several visiting students — took part in the XIV Symposium of Experimental Sciences 👩🏼🔬👨🏻🔬 held recently at the University of Almería☀️
They presented their scientific posters, showcasing the exciting work they are developing across different areas of experimental science📈. We’re proud of their dedication, curiosity, and contribution to advancing research within our group🚀
These works are framed within the projects PHOTOBIO+, ALBOR, SOLAR·FOODS, BLUE FUTURE, REALM, COSEC and NAMOR.

Almost done with an amazing research experience at the Future Foods Conference in Singapore! Our colleagues gave some incredible presentations, and we've really enjoyed the company of our friend and colleague Ingrid from IRTA.
Today, Cesar shared his insights on microalgal biomass, showing how different strains have unique nutritional and bioactive properties. Maria explored optimizing cultivation using alternative water sources like seawater. Tomas discussed S. almeriensis as a new food ingredient, highlighting ways to improve its quality.
So much learned from all the experts here! It's truly impressive to see how microalgae are making their way into more and more food applications.

Our research groups is present at the Future Foods Conference in Singapore 🇸🇬
Yesterday, Silvia gave an insightful presentation on improving the sustainability of spirulina production by reducing water consumption. She also demonstrated some of spirulina's potential uses in the food industry, such as a food colorant and a source of proteins.
We're thoroughly enjoying sharing our knowledge with the food sector, a crucial area for microalgae applications.

After 5 wonderful days we bring ISAP 2024 to an end. We could not finish the conference in a better way: two presentations and a prize. 🇵🇹
Tomas presented the work entitled “effect of temperature on the growth and oxygen production capacity of scenedesmus almeriensis" and María showed us very interesting results on the behavior of the two marine microalgae Nannochloropsis gaditana and Tetraselmis chuii under different operational conditions (CLEAN•AIR and PRODIGIO projects). 🔬🧪👨🏼🔬👩🏼🔬
Finally, we congratulate our colleague Rebecca for winning the best oral presentation award! 🏆

Yesterday started the ISAP2024 congress in Porto 🇵🇹
Gabriel presented about the advances in scaling the production of microalgae and Silvia showed us how they managed to control the contamination present in their spirulina reactors 🦠
We are really enjoying seeing so many familiar faces and all the knowledge that is being transmitted at this congress 🫂🔬

Enjoying the last day of the algal BBB 2024 congress in Tampa with our colleagues from
Silvia gave the last talk of the event with her presentation "A zero-waste biorefinery approach of Artrhospira platensis as a food protein source and as a plant biostimulant in agriculture". It was an amazing presentation that triggered the interest of the audience.
It was a wonderfull experiencie. We are looking forward to seeing you all again in Phoenix next year!

Even during the production of Spirulina, an extremophile, contaminations can occur. However, there are also solutions to this problem, as explained by Tomás at AlgalBBB 2024.
A very interesting presentation about different strategies to minimize the abundance of unwanted microalgae in cultures of Arthrospira platensis.
This study has been conducted within the BLUE·FUTURE and SOLAR·FOODS projects

Second day at the International Conference on Algal Biomass, Biofuels and Bioproducts (AlgalBBB 2024) in Tampa
Gabriel kicked off this second day with a talk about the challenges in the scale-up of microalgae production systems.
Today, Ainoa presented the work "Impact of Temperature on the Oxygen Generation Capacity of Scenedesmus almeriensis" as part of the BLUE•FUTURE project.
Tomás presented a poster entitled "Microalgae and Society: An Iberoamerican-Country Analysis", a research carried out with support of the CYTED Iberoamerican network RENUWAL.
We continue enjoying this wonderful city along with great professionals in the field of algae!🏖️📗
