The project held two online sessions at the local level in December 2020 for teachers of technical secondary schools in Port Said and Kalyobia Mudiriiya.
Port Said Industrial School and Tahrir School gave interesting presentations.
Port Said School has shared with the participants how they gradually improved students’ competencies not by being too strict but by being tolerant and patient with students.
At the beginning, students hesitated to implement 3S (sort/set in order/shine) as they think cleaning the workshop is not their responsibility.
In order to encourage students, teachers themselves conducted 3S inside the workshop and, thus, became a role model for students. Under the project’s instructions, the school could enhance the effectiveness of “roll call” by writing students’ number on the floor and have them line up in the beginning of class.
This way enabled teachers to monitor tardiness in less time and advise students accordingly.
Tahrir School also demonstrated their tremendous efforts in enabling students independently to perform 3S at the workshop. They trained students to act independently by having them select the required tools for the product, get these tools by themselves from the storage and return them back to their designated place after finishing the lesson.
This behavior reflected even in their daily life for the fact that students became more organized at their homes.
Another important advice from the school is that all teachers at school should discuss together the activities they are willing to implement in order to reach a mutual understanding.
These two sessions were the end of the series of online sessions in 2020.
We hope that participants benefited from the sessions to improve technical education further in their schools.

The project’s four pilot schools and model school introduced model activities referring to the Japanese style education by using the “Guideline for Practical Lesson Improvement” developed by the project. JICA project team and these schools organized three online sessions, which aim to disseminate the effectiveness of the model activities to other schools. The number of participants reached 250 from more than 23 schools in three governorates (Port Said, Kayliobia, and Monufia).
In the first online session, Ahmed Zeweil School presented how the school made consensus building among all teachers for introducing Japanese style through the principal’s strong leadership and continuous communication. Besides, providing training from electronics teachers to other departments.
In the second online session, El-Araby School for Applied Technology (ESAT), which is the first Applied Technology School (ATS) in Egypt, which was established in Sep 2018, introduced how El-Araby Company guided teachers, and how teachers challenged the model activities by referring to the Guideline.
In the third online session, Obour Industrial School explained their dual partnership with Unicharm, a Japanese company. The school explained that teachers learned competencies required on site through Unicharm Factory tours, and presented how their partnership with Unicharm has contributed in enhancing students’ competencies.
Here is the feedback from participants of the three online sessions.
• The activities introduced at the online session will increase
the value of technical education.
• Seriously, the online session gave me a strong push in
self-development and learning how to manage the
classroom in a good way.
• I want to implement Japanese style at my school. I want to
know more about steps of implementation.
• I hope to have such online sessions periodically as they
will improve exchange of experience and successful
practice.
The Project is going to organize next online sessions on 15th and 16th December 2020 for technical secondary schools nationwide. The details will be shown in this page.
