- Mine
(Work on - work at - work for - work with - work in - work around - work up - work out - work into - work off - work to - work against ......)
I 'd deal with only two of these :
Remember well that :
(Work on and work at ) + a task or an activity ( not a place or a time )
mean : to spend time and effort improving and completing something .
Question :
Are "work on and work at" similar ?
Answer : Yes and NO . How is that ?
If.....
"Work on and work at " are followed by verb + ing , they are absolutely similar .They are interchangeable. For example :
1-Ahmed is working ( on - at) losing his weight .Both are correct .
2-Mona has worked hard ( on - at ) being independent learner .
3-I will have to work ( on - at ) getting fit before the game .
But
(Work on and work at ) + noun ( not gerund ): are different as we don't use "work at " + noun if we mean improving instead we use work on only + noun . Examples . You can work on your : computer - project - muscles - car - ......etc
1-I should work on my graduation project .
2-You should work on your English skills .
3-You need to work on your pronunciation a bit more .
"At" in these three examples is not correct . In this case "work on and work at " are not interchangable .
Briefly (work on and work at ) + v + ing are identical twins .
(Work on and work at ) + noun are different .
Now , I have a question :
1-The students work (at - with - on - in ) their homework everyday . Choose
With my best wishes...

Hello, a member asked," why are there silent letters in English?"
First of all let's have a deal, English language is not a phonetic one as English has 44 phonemes and only 26 letters.
There are some reasons for silent letters and there are about 60% of the English words have silent letters.
🔹A silent letter can help in telling us how the word is pronounced and the most common example is silent magic "e" when it comes at the end of some words.
NOTE;
fat⏩fate
Sit⏩site
🔹Silent letters help to distinguish between some homophones (words with same pronunciation but diffrent spelling) in writing.
NOTE;
no⏩know
to⏩too⏩two
🔹Silent letters can help to define the history and origin of words. In the 15th century many words were added to the English language from Latin, German and French origins, their spelling remain while their pronunciation change.
NOTE;
knight⏩ a German word where k and gh are pronounced in German, but silent in English.
