From Research to Community Impact: Behind the Outcomes of the Policy Co-Creation Workshop at Badr University 🔬🏥

The School of Medicine at Badr University in Cairo proudly concluded its international co-creation workshop in collaboration with the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, as part of an international research project funded by the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF). The project explored the social and cultural determinants of antibiotic use in semi-urban communities in Egypt.

The workshop served as an interactive platform bringing together academics, policymakers, and healthcare experts to translate field research findings and 58 community-driven recommendations into practical and implementable policy directions addressing antimicrobial resistance in Egypt.

🔬 Key Insights from the Workshop:

• Semi-urban communities were selected as strategic research models, enabling wider applicability of findings.
• Pharmacists were highlighted as the first point of healthcare contact for many citizens.
• Research discussions identified misconceptions regarding metronidazole as a non-antibiotic among some community members.
• Experts emphasized that tackling AMR requires a comprehensive basket of interventions rather than a single regulatory action.

🤝 Partnerships and Future Vision

The workshop brought together distinguished experts from Egyptian and international institutions, including representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Participants agreed on developing a Policy Brief to support sustainable national policies promoting rational antibiotic use in Egypt.

من البحث العلمي إلى التأثير المجتمعي: كواليس مخرجات ورشة عمل "صياغة السياسات" بجامعة بدر 🔬🏥

بكل فخر واعتزاز، اختتمت كلية الطب البشري بجامعة بدر بالقاهرة (BUC) فعاليات ورشة العمل الدولية بالتعاون مع جامعة بريستول، وذلك ضمن مشروع بحثي دولي ممول من الأكاديمية البريطانية للبحث العلمي (ISPF)، بهدف استكشاف المحددات الاجتماعية والثقافية لاستخدام المضادات الحيوية في المناطق شبه الحضرية في مصر.

لم تكن الورشة مجرد لقاء علمي، بل منصة تفاعلية جمعت الخبراء وصنّاع القرار والأكاديميين لتحويل نتائج البحث الميداني و58 توصية مجتمعية تم تطويرها بالتعاون مع الأطباء والصيادلة وأفراد المجتمع، إلى خطوات عملية قابلة للتطبيق ضمن السياق الصحي المصري، بما يدعم الجهود الوطنية لمواجهة مقاومة المضادات الحيوية.

🔬 حقائق ورؤى من قلب الورشة:

• المناطق شبه الحضرية كنموذج للدراسة: ركز المشروع على مدينتي بدر والفتح بمحافظة أسيوط باعتبارهما نموذجاً للمناطق شبه الحضرية (Semi-urban)، مما يمنح نتائج الدراسة قابلية للتطبيق على شريحة واسعة من المجتمع المصري.

• الصيدلية خط الدفاع الأول: أكدت المناقشات أن الصيدلي يمثل نقطة الاتصال الأولى للمواطن، ما يستدعي دعمه بسياسات صحية وتنظيمية تُمكّنه من تقديم المشورة السليمة دون ضغوط اقتصادية أو مجتمعية.

• تصحيح المفاهيم المجتمعية: أظهرت نتائج النقاشات أن نسبة من المواطنين لا تعتبر دواء Metronidazole مضاداً حيوياً، وهو ما يفسر بعض أنماط سوء الاستخدام، ويؤكد الحاجة إلى حملات توعوية موجهة.

• سلة تدخلات متكاملة: اتفق الخبراء على أن مواجهة مقاومة المضادات الحيوية لا تعتمد على تشريع واحد، بل على حزمة متكاملة تشمل تفعيل القوانين القائمة، تعزيز الوعي المجتمعي، ودعم دور وحدات الرعاية الصحية الأولية.

🤝 شركاء النجاح والرؤية المستقبلية:

شهدت الورشة حضور نخبة متميزة من الخبراء والأكاديميين وممثلي الجهات الصحية المصرية والدولية، من جامعات بدر وبريستول وعين شمس وأسيوط والزقازيق والإسكندرية، إلى جانب ممثلين عن وزارة الصحة المصرية، وهيئة الدواء المصرية (EDA)، ومنظمتي الصحة العالمية (WHO) والأغذية والزراعة (FAO)، حيث تم الاتفاق على إعداد وثيقة سياسات (Policy Brief) تُرفع للجهات المعنية لتكون نواة لسياسات وطنية مستدامة تدعم الاستخدام الرشيد للمضادات الحيوية في مصر.
