Hosted by the Global Health Association (GHA) at AUC, this seminar is designed to orient scholars, students, and faculty on the importance of School Health and Nutrition (SHN), covering its core components, global impact, and the key actors driving change in the field. Our esteemed panelists include: Dr. Fayrouz Sakr Ashour, IGHHE at AUC; Dr. Khalid Siddeeg, WHO EMRO; Dr. Nevein Dous, UNICEF-Egypt; and Dr. Michael Milad Abdalah, World Food Programme (WFP).

💡 SHN programs improve the health, nutrition, and education outcomes of children aged 3–18, forming the foundation of healthy, productive societies. Yet despite their proven value, SHN remains underrepresented in academia.

With profound sorrow and hearts weighed down by grief, we mourn the passing of the kind, graceful, and deeply beloved professor and mother, Professor Laila El Baradei. Her passing has left a deep void that words can scarcely fill.

Dr. Laila dedicated her life to the most noble of callings — the pursuit and sharing of knowledge. As a professor, mentor, and guide, she devoted herself to teaching, spreading the light of science, and nurturing minds and hearts with sincerity and grace. We trust that her legacy and the lives she touched will continue to testify for her and be a source of ongoing reward for her in the Hereafter, inshallah.

We pray that Allah, in His infinite mercy, grants her forgiveness, accepts her lifelong service in His cause, and welcomes her into the highest gardens of Paradise. She will forever be remembered with love, honor, and unending gratitude.

‎لقد كانت مثالًا في العطاء، تنشر العلم وتنير العقول، وتربي الأجيال بمحبة وإخلاص. ومَن علّم علمًا أو نشر معرفةً، فله أجرٌ لا ينقطع بعد موته. نسأل الله أن يكون علمها وعملها شفيعًا لها، وأن يُثقل به ميزان حسناتها، ويجعل كل من تعلم منها شاهدًا لها لا عليها.

‎نسأل الله أن يتغمدها بواسع رحمته، ويغفر لها، ويجعل علمها وعملها صدقة جارية، وأن يسكنها فسيح جناته، ويلهم أهلها ومحبيها الصبر والسلوان.

📢 Transforming Healthcare in Egypt by 2030 🌍

Marwa Hafiz, our GHA Events Manager, is a co-author and project coordinator of a groundbreaking project led by AUC professor Hesham Dinana in collaboration with the London School of Economics (LSE), Egypt’s Ministry of Health, and global partners under the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR). Researchers included graduates of AUC`s Institute of Global Health & Human Ecology (IGHHE), the AUB, and the University of Oxford, with Professor Mohamed Salama, MPH program director, and Assistant Professor Fayrouz Ashour on the project`s advisory board.

The team’s 2024 report identified key gaps in access, affordability, and quality of care, paving the way for two major initiatives:
✅ A centralized health data platform for better decision-making.
✅ Fair financing systems with innovative payment models to ensure equity for all.

“Healthcare reform is about creating lasting solutions for all Egyptians,” Hafiz shared.
