As part of our ongoing Groundwater Exploration and Capacity Building Project, the Geology Department at Alexandria University, in collaboration with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), successfully organized a specialized training event: “Learn Adobe Illustrator for Science-Illustrator Essentials.”
🗓 Date & Time: Saturday, 7 February 2026 – 11:00 AM
📍 Location: Geology Department, Moharram Bek, Alexandria University
The workshop, delivered by Dr. Hany Khalil (PhD, Monash University, Australia), focused on building essential skills for creating publication-ready scientific figures and improving the visual quality of theses, research papers, and technical presentations.
Participants gained hands-on experience with Illustrator tools and learned practical techniques for transforming scientific data into clear, professional diagrams, supporting the project’s mission to strengthen research and communication skills among geoscience students and researchers.

As part of the Groundwater Exploration and Capacity Building Project in the Northern Western Desert of Egypt, a two-day workshop was successfully conducted on Sunday 1 February – Monday 2 February at the Geophysics Lab, Alexandria University.
The workshop focused on the processing and interpretation of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) data collected during the recent field campaign, providing participants with hands-on experience in transforming field measurements into meaningful subsurface models.
🗓 Workshop Highlights:
✔️ Processing of 1D and 2D resistivity datasets
✔️ Quality control and inversion of field data
✔️ Interpretation of resistivity models for groundwater exploration
✔️ Integrating geophysical results with hydrogeological understanding
Building directly on the project’s field activities, the training strengthened participants’ practical skills in data analysis and scientific interpretation, supporting the project’s ongoing capacity-building mission.

🌍 As part of the ongoing activities of our Groundwater Exploration and Capacity Building Project in the Northern Western Desert of Egypt, we are pleased to share that a major field campaign took place from November 23 to December 2, 2025.
This extended field trip brought together the American PI and the Egyptian Co-P*s, who worked side by side in the project’s study areas to advance the geophysical and hydrogeological objectives of the project.
🔍 The activities during the trip included:
Conducting integrated geophysical surveys
Assessing groundwater potential in targeted sites
Overseeing field logistics and data acquisition
Coordinating with local community members and field teams
Planning the next phases of capacity building and drilling activities
This collaboration reflects the project’s strong international partnership and its commitment to supporting sustainable groundwater development in Egypt’s Western Desert.

🌍 Geophysics Workshop Successfully Conducted! 🎉
We are pleased to share that the online workshop “Groundwater Exploration and Capacity Building in the Northern Western Desert of Egypt”, supported by Geoscientists Without Borders (GWB), was successfully held on November 8, 2025.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Ahmed Ismail, Adjunct Professor at Oklahoma State University and Principal Geophysicist at Maxima Geophysics.
💧 The session focused on:
Mapping freshwater aquifers and groundwater resources
Developing hydrogeophysics capacity for Egyptian students
Promoting geophysics as a sustainable, cost-effective tool for water resource development
Supporting local communities in need of freshwater
We extend our gratitude to Geoscientists Without Borders and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) for their support, and to the enthusiastic participation of Alexandria University’s geoscience faculty and students.
Together, we continue building capacity and advancing sustainable groundwater exploration in Egypt! 🌍💦
