Example:

The idiom comes from Shakespeare (Macbeth play)

It means the best thing, the most important thing about something so that you don't need to look for anything else.

Example:
- Look, money is not the be-all and end-all.
- The point is that calories aren't the be-all and end-all of
nutrition.
