๐Ÿ“ข We invite you to a lecture "How and why genocide distinguished warfare" with A. Dirk Moses, taking place on the 8 December, 16:30โ€“18:00, in room M134.

The lecture will explore how the legal definition of genocide was narrowed so that states can wage war against populations without easily being held accountable. Holocaust memory has reinforced the division between war and genocide. The consequences of this limited legal framework can be seen in many conflicts since World War II, including the current situations in Ukraine and Gaza. Understanding these key concepts and their functions is crucial to addressing this fundamental flaw in international criminal law.

We warmly invite everyone and encourage you to share!

๐ŸŽ“ Today, our IRS student society took part in an insightful session at the Banned Book Museum in Tallinn. We had the opportunity to speak with the founder about the politics of censorship: why and how books are suppressed, what forms control can take, and which works are essential for understanding these mechanisms.

๐Ÿ“š Each participant was able to find a banned or censored book from their own country, highlighting that censorship is not limited to one region or political system, but occurs in diverse contexts around the world.

๐Ÿง  The museum actively encourages visitors to support its mission by donating unique banned or censored books from across the globe. It has also launched a publishing series of known "banned" books, republishing selected titles together with contextual commentary to shed light on their historical and political significance.
