February 23 was another special day for Kohila Symposium! We were recognized by Kohila and their Municipality Government (). The event is held every year around the Independence Day of Estonia where Kohila thanks the people who have contributed to Kohila in the past years.

🌟LIFE PROMOTER AWARD to Lumi Kristin Vihterpal () and Jekaterina Kaplan ()

The Life Promoter Award was presented to two talented and outstanding artists – Lumi Kristin Vihterpal and Jekaterina Kaplan. The dedicated work of the women has given Kohila and Estonian art life an international voice and enriched the cultural space of the community in Kohila.

Their work has made Kohila spiritually greater than its geographical borders – a place where different artistic fields, people and ways of thinking meet. Today, a small place in Estonia called Kohila is known in at least 40 countries. It is this vibrant, open and connecting cultural space that is important to Kohila as a community to raise them to a pedestal with gratitude.

🌟 HONORARY CERTIFICATE - FOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY to Cristopher SinivĂ€li ()

Curator of the 25th anniversary exhibition of the international Kohila Symposium “AFTER FIRE AFTERLIFE”, who brought together the works created at the symposium over the past quarter century and opened up Kohila’s artistic heritage to a wide audience both in Estonia and in an international context.

We want to thank again everyone who has seen us, spread the message of Kohila Symposium, been there with us, worked with us, smiled with us! This journey has been incredible and we are very much excited to see what the years upon us will bring!

See you already this July in Kohila! Much more to come. 😉

We are happy to announce that Kohila Symposium was recognized with one of the annual awards of the Estonian Cultural Endowment () for Fine and Applied Arts 2025 – for maintaining and developing the international Kohila Symposium with a quarter-century tradition in good synergy. The major international wood-fired ceramics event held annually in Kohila has shaped the Estonian ceramic landscape and brought together creative people from all over the world. This year’s anniversary exhibition “AFTER FIRE AFTERLIFE” held in the Krulli Quarter to celebrate the 25th event in a row opened up the symposium’s legacy in a new, engaging way. In an intimate twilight, a selection of works from the symposium’s collection exhibited in an enchanting design offered a fresh and effective view of the wealth of possibilities in the profession. The courage and vision to seek a contemporary sound for the ancient medium of ceramics deserve special mention – to create a dialogue between ancient material and modern ideas and to bring ceramics to new fields of meaning.

Award was given to:
⭐Jekaterina Kaplan () for organizing and developing the symposium for the last five years
⭐ Lumi Kristin Vihterpal () for organizing and developing the symposium for the last five years
⭐ Andres Allik for being the very heart of the symposium the last 25 years. From building the kiln to loading the kiln numerous times.
⭐ Cristopher SinivĂ€li () for curating the 25th anniversary exhibition “AFTER FIRE AFTERLIFE”

We would like to thank who has kept one of the most important ceramic event going for all these years!

Thank you all the assistants and people who have helped organized the symposium in the past. This award goes also to you!

Thank you all the artists who have participated!

Thank you all the sponsors and partners for being always there for us!

The upcoming years of Kohila Symposium will be the ones to remember!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

DEMO: TREIMINE

DEMO: WHEEL-THORWING

On October 8, starting at 6 p.m., exhibition visitors can meet Koidu Kerli behind her potter’s wheel, throwing her favorite bowls, cups, and cylinders. Koidu invites visitors to watch and ask about ceramics and about her own practice.

Koidu is currently a student in the ceramics department at the Estonian Academy of Arts, where she works daily with functional ware and small sculptures. She describes her practical work as soft and sometimes strange, but it is thanks to these qualities that Koidu feels most at home.
