7/2/25 - On our 2nd of adventures through the Andes with we started the day off with a tasty breakfast and by being serenaded to by Cristina, in her native language of Quichua. We also got to learn about the symbolism of her traditional jewelry and clothing.
We were then off to Cuicocho Lagoon a volcanic crater lake nestled in the Cotacochi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve.
Next we got to prepare our lunch in a cooking class with Claudia where we picked our ingredients fresh from the garden and learned how to wash quinoa the Andes way.
Our final stop for the day was at Parque Condor where we got to meet some of the birds up close and personal.
We ended the day with a stroll around the grounds of our hotel before snuggling in for the night with a nice warm hot water bottle tucked into our bed.

Since I am traveling tonight and unable to light a candle, I will reshare this post from a couple of years ago. Let this be our piece of the wave of light in honor of our babies.
Tonight, people across the the globe lit a candle to honor all of our precious babies who are in our hearts, not in our arms.
As candles were lit in each time zone we created a Wave of Light to collectively mark the short flame of our babies' lives and acknowledge the impact they had and will forever have on us.
Although many of us do find joy again, the grief will always be there and that deserves to be acknowledged.
So, today we do that🕯️

Thoughts of su***de are not simply “I want to die” and in fact, they may want to live but want to escape feeling the way they do.
For people who wanted kids and can’t have them thoughts can look like:
💔There is no future I want to live in. I can’t imagine a life without children.
💔I am in such agony and I can’t bear to feel this way any longer.
💔No one understands me or my pain and I’ve never felt so alone.
💔My life is worthless and has no meaning. What’s the point in going on.
💔No one will care about me when I’m older I might as well end it now.
💔I have let down my partner and they are better off without me.
None of these things are true and you have a full life to live on the other side of grief. Your life is profoundly important🤍
Thoughts of su***de are the result of overwhelming emotional pain and/or mental health struggles. Part of why involuntary childlessness contributes to such pain is the disenfranchised nature of the grief and a sense of hopelessness.
If you identify with this please know there is help and it won’t always be this way. One of the reasons there are few voices about this is because people feel better and move on, it no longer dominates their experience. Reach out for support from someone who understands the specific struggle, where the enormity of your pain will not be bypassed or trivialized.
There are many therapists, coaches, online communities, podcasts and events where you can find support and feel less alone. The following hashtags are a good starting point:
If you know someone who is childless not by choice, listen to them and offer space to see the unique loss they are having to grapple with. You will not fully understand it but showing that you want to, and reflecting that it truly is a massive loss in life, will go a long way.
