Academic Excellence at the University of Tlemcen: A Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Saleem H. Ali 🎓

The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Sciences was honored to host Professor Saleem H. Ali from the University of Delaware (USA) as part of its ongoing scientific and academic program.

Internationally recognized for his expertise in sustainable development, environmental diplomacy, and natural resource management, Professor Ali delivered a compelling lecture titled: "How Natural Laws Define Human Life."

This event provided a valuable platform for faculty, researchers, and students to explore the profound connection between fundamental natural laws and the evolution of human societies. The discussion focused on the implications of these laws for contemporary technological choices and sustainability policies, emphasizing the urgent need to reconcile scientific progress, environmental responsibility, and the rational use of resources in the face of global challenges such as climate change and the energy transition.

Depuis plus d'un siècle, les scientifiques décrivent la réalité à l'aide de trois dimensions spatiales et d'une dimension temporelle, un cadre théorique issu de la théorie de la relativité d'Einstein. Bien que ce modèle ait permis d'expliquer de nombreux phénomènes cosmiques, il a longtemps peiné à s'accorder pleinement avec la mécanique quantique, la théorie qui régit le monde microscopique des particules et des atomes.

Le physicien Gunther Kletetschka, de l'Université de l'Alaska Fairbanks, a proposé un nouveau cadre audacieux dans lequel le temps lui-même possède trois dimensions indépendantes. Selon cette théorie, ces dimensions temporelles supplémentaires pourraient contribuer à expliquer des comportements quantiques énigmatiques tels que la superposition et l'intrication. Plus spectaculaire encore, ce modèle suggère que l'espace pourrait émerger d'une structure temporelle plus profonde, inversant ainsi l'idée reçue selon laquelle l'espace et le temps sont des composantes fondamentales et égales de la réalité.

Cette théorie demeure hautement spéculative et n'a pas encore été confirmée expérimentalement. Cependant, ses partisans affirment qu'elle offre des prédictions vérifiables et pourrait permettre d'élucider des mystères de longue date en physique fondamentale, notamment la masse des particules élémentaires. Comme pour toute idée scientifique révolutionnaire, des tests rigoureux et une vérification indépendante permettront de déterminer si cette proposition constitue une avancée majeure ou si elle rejoint la longue liste des théories ambitieuses qui n'ont pas résisté à l'examen critique.
