২০১৭ সালে রাষ্ট্রীয় একটি গোয়েন্দা সংস্থার করা প্রতিবেদনের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, এস আলম গ্রুপের ব্যাংক ঋণের পরিমাণ ছিলো ১ লক্ষ কোটি টাকার উপরে! ৫ বছর পর দেশের শীর্ষ খেলাপি শিল্প পরিবারের ঋণের পরিমাণ এখন ৬ লক্ষ কোটি টাকা।

অভিনব কায়দায় দেশের টাকা লুটের জন্য এস আলম গ্রুপের মালিকানায় রয়েছে ৭ টি ব্যাংক সহ মোট ৯ টি আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান। যেগুলোর সবকয়টি ভয়াবহ দুর্নীতি এবং ঋণের জালে জর্জরিত।

দেশের ৪৩ টি ব্যাংক থেকে হাজার হাজার কোটি টাকা লোপাট করে বিদেশে পাঁচার করেছে এস আলম গ্রুপ। আর এসবের মাস্টারমাইন্ড হচ্ছেন এস আলম গ্রুপের চেয়ারম্যান সাইফুল আলম মাসুদ। শীর্ষ এই খেলাপি পরিবারের হাতে জিম্মি দেশের ব্যাংকিং খাত। সবচেয়ে বড় ব্যাংক খেকো প্রতিষ্ঠানও তারা।

তথ্য গোপন করে ধানমন্ডিতে ৩০০ কোটি টাকা মূল্যের একটি পরিত্যক্ত সরকারী সম্পত্তি নিজের দাবি করায় প্রবীণ ও প্রথিতযশা সাংবাদিক দৈনিক কালবেলার সম্পাদক আবেদ খানকে জরিমানা করেছেন উচ্চ আদালত!

রিটে মিথ্যা তথ্য দেয়ায় ১০ হাজার টাকা জরিমানাও করা হয়েছে। আবেদ খান অনেক আগে থেকেই জাল জালিয়াতি এবং সম্পত্তি দখলে লিপ্ত। তার বিরুদ্ধে পারিবারিক সম্পত্তি আত্মসাৎ এবং প্রতারণার অভিযোগও আছে।
