🌟1–2-Year-Olds 🌟
At First Steps, your little ones explore, learn, and grow every day! Our nurturing environment follows the EYFS curriculum to develop every area of your child’s development.
Here’s what a week with us looks like for our tiniest learners:
🎨 Creative & Expressive Arts: Finger painting, stickers, and music – building fine motor skills and self-expression.
📚 Literacy & Communication: Stories, songs, and puppets – helping children build language, listening, and early literacy skills.
🧮 Early Maths: Counting, sorting, and shape play – introducing numbers, colours, and problem-solving.
🏃 Physical & Outdoor Play: Ride-ons, bubble chasing, obstacle courses – strengthening gross motor skills and confidence.
🤝 Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED): Sharing, turn-taking, imaginative play – learning how to connect with others.
🌱 Understanding the World: Water, sand, nature, and sensory exploration – fostering curiosity and discovery.

Our early years unit is split into two age groups:

Tweenies (1-3 years)

Our staff conduct meaningful observations as children independently choose activities and experiences. Through these observations, staff ensure your child’s needs and interests are met while enhancing the provision to build on their existing abilities and understanding.

The room is designed to promote sensory and heuristic play, encouraging children to explore, investigate, snuggle up, and make choices.

We offer children hands-on opportunities for exploration, repetition of tasks, and investigation. We also emphasize physical activity and promoting healthy choices, recognizing their importance in early childhood for aiding concentration and body control.

Our daily routines are flexible to meet the needs of the children and respectful of the routines established by parents at home.

Preschool (3-5 years)
Our staff create a well-organized and resource-rich space to encourage children to become independent and self-reliant.

Practitioners work alongside children to support their learning and development. Quality observations form the basis of our assessments, which inform the planning of an engaging and tailored curriculum for each child.

The curriculum is flexible and adaptable, recognizing that children learn at different rates. We ensure ample time for children to explore and revisit activities.

Throughout our early years program practitioners support children in making connections within their own learning and encourages them to engage with their individualized "next steps" with sensitivity and support. The daily rhythm of activities, meals, and rest times helps children gain confidence and feel secure in their environment.

First Steps (aged 12 months to 5 years)

At First Steps we foster the holistic development of children by encouraging them to build their skills, knowledge, and understanding. Recognizing that play is fundamental to learning in young children, our practitioners use a child-centered approach to offer and support a range of suitable learning opportunities that cater to the diverse needs of babies and young children.
