Internationalization is an important and visible part of the master's degree study programs at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences. The programs of the Graduate School, conducted almost exclusively in English, offers students an excellen

t education in a global context. In 1998 the first international master's degree program was established at Offenburg University. Since then, the Graduate School has systematically strengthened the international profile of its master's programs to the point that they are an integral part of each study program. The master's programs at Offenburg University have received numerous awards. For example, in 2008, the study program "Communication and Media Engineering" (CME) was chosen by the Association for German Science and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as one of the 10 best international master's courses at German universities; continuing to be one of the most innovative international master's programs in Germany. The Graduate School coordinates the international master's degree programs and is responsible for the common tasks inherent to the international nature of the programs, such as marketing, management, international alumni network, partnerships, and financing. The work of the Graduate School is supported by the Advisory Board, comprised of business leaders, the rector of the university, the head of the graduate school, and the directors of each of the international study programs. Each of the Graduate School's study programs has a coordinator who provides comprehensive services related directly to or around your studies. To learn more about the Graduate School and its international master's degree programs, download and read through our information brochure.

IBC alumni might remember this sentence:

“PowerPoint slides are not a strategy.”

When learning goes both ways.

After more than 30 years at Hochschule Offenburg, Professor Fischer is entering retirement.

For 26 of those years, he played a central role in building and shaping the International Business Consulting (IBC) program — and the community that grew around it.

Many alumni will remember his lectures for the lively discussions, the thoughtful questions, and the occasional remark that stayed with you long after class.

But what he valued most were the moments when everything simply worked — great students, fascinating discussions, and lectures where ideas seemed to unfold naturally.

For Professor Fischer, teaching was never a one-way street.

Again and again, students brought forward ideas that were new to him — sometimes surprising, sometimes challenging, but always enriching the conversation. A reminder that the best classrooms are places where everyone learns from each other.

Colleagues remember that same spirit. As Alexandra from the IBC program office said:

“There was not one single boring day. He was full of ideas and commitment to the program and to the people working for it.”

Now a new chapter begins.

More time for mountain biking, hiking, and climbing — and enjoying the occasional perfect espresso in South Tyrol.

Thank you, Professor Fischer, for more than three decades of curiosity, conversations, and inspiration. Your impact will continue in the many students and colleagues whose paths you shaped along the way.

Two days ago we had a wonderful Get-together with the members of the Senior Service 🤍

An evening full of conversations, laughter, and genuine connections – bringing generations & cultures together.

Our Senior Citizens of Offenburg support international students in many ways: sharing meals, exploring the region, practicing German, helping with applications, or simply being there.

Why join events like this? Because it’s more than just a meeting – it’s about finding connection, support, and a sense of belonging… and yes, there’s usually free food and drinks too 😉

As Agus from Indonesia shared:
“Moving to a new country, students look for new friends and a place that feels like home. Through the Senior Service, they can find it. Talking, cooking, eating together – it feels like family.”

Have you already met your senior partner – or would you like to? We’d love to hear your experience in the comments ✨

🎓 From Master’s Student to PhD – at the Same University

Saptadi Nugroho began his academic journey in the Communication and Media Engineering (CME) program at HS Offenburg with a big question:
Can HSO graduates even pursue a PhD?

Today, the answer is clear: YES! 🙌

He has successfully earned his Dr. rer. nat. in cooperation with the University of Freiburg.

His research:
“Data Aggregation using Peer-to-Peer Network and Dynamic Directed Graph Operation”

We are incredibly proud to have accompanied Saptadi from his master’s degree all the way to his doctorate.

Congratulations, Dr. Nugroho! 🎉

INT goes Karlsruhe!

We had an exciting visit to Mall + Herlan GmbH, a global leader in high-tech aluminium packaging and one of our ChallengeEU associated partners, the company has been developing cutting-edge machinery for major international brands. 🏭

Students were warmly welcomed by CEO Carsten O’ Beirne, who personally guided them through the production areas and offered valuable insights into the company’s processes and technologies. 🤝

They also had the opportunity to explore modern manufacturing, automation, and sustainable technologies up close — an inspiring glimpse into the future of engineering and production. 🤖⚙️🌱

Thank you to Mall + Herlan GmbH for hosting us! 🙌

This interview highlights a visit to Pori, Finland, where Mr. Dorer delivered a guest lecture and got to know the partner university for the Applied AI program. He was impressed by the support and international diversity and recommend staff participate in mobility programs to gain new experiences.
