Five years ago Julia was a flight attendant
flying long-haul, gone half the month.
I was a district manager,
on trains between store visits,
answering emails on Friday nights.

We were tired.
And we barely saw each other…

Now we wake up at Lake Garda with Elio.
Slow mornings. Walks by the water.
Days that actually feel like ours.

We didn’t start with a plan.
Just a quiet feeling that there had to be
a different way to do all this.

Turns out there was.

We used to sit at our kitchen table in Munich
saying maybe next year.

Then next year came
and we were still sitting there,
saying exactly the same thing…

At some point we realized
the right time was never going to arrive on its own.

We had to choose it.

Just one honest decision,
followed by a lot of small ones.

Now Elio eats breakfast
looking out at Lake Garda,
and that kitchen table feels like another life.

Some days with a one-year-old feel like
they last forever…

„Hopp hopp breiter“ for the tenth time today.
Food on the floor.
The crying you can’t always explain.

And then you blink
and the whole year is gone…

He’s taller. He has words now.
He reaches for things he couldn’t reach last month…

Everyone told us the years go fast.
But you don’t really get it until you’re standing in the middle of one.

So on the long days, the hard ones,
we try to remember
these are the short years too.

That’s the whole reason
we built a life with more time in it.

Not for the easy days.

Julia would have been checking her schedule
for the week ahead.

Early flight Monday…
Layover somewhere…
Home for two days…
Then gone again…😓

I would be terrified thinking about the week ahead.
To sit in a train to the next store visit.
Laptop open. Business Reporting and Emails from the last week waiting…

On Sunday evenings it felt like the weekend was already over.

Now Elio is playing in the garden….

I haven’t checked my phone yet…
