🌍 Building local skills for climate-smart agriculture and aquaculture!

Great to see 35 participants in Mwanza, Tanzania, gaining hands-on experience through the KijaniSpace Talent Training and Hackathon activities. Participants are exploring how technologies such as Earth Observation, IoT, GIS and AI can help turn local farming and aquaculture challenges into practical digital solutions.

This is an important step from learning to innovation — strengthening local talent and supporting future solutions for communities across the Lake Victoria Basin.

From learning technology to building real solutions. 🌍

On 29 September, KijaniSpace launches its second Talent Training Programme round in Mwanza, Tanzania.

Participants will learn about IoT, GIS, Earth Observation and data applications, and put those skills into practice through assignments and a hackathon.

The goal is to finish with more than knowledge: skills, a prototype and a stronger network.

It is about helping the next generation of innovators turn data and technology into useful solutions.

KijaniSpace has reached an important milestone: two years of implementation completed and one year to go!

Partners are meeting in Mwanza, Tanzania, to review what has been created so far — from the Space-IoT Box and talent programmes to agriculture and water-monitoring applications — and plan how these results can create lasting value.

The next year will focus strongly on putting knowledge, technology and partnerships into practical use for climate-smart agriculture.

Could your agriculture solution do more with satellite and sensor data? 🌍🛰️

Applications are open for the KijaniSpace Space-IoT Innovation Programme, supporting SMEs and start-ups in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to strengthen existing climate-smart agriculture solutions.

Up to five selected teams can receive up to €5,000 in financial support, together with access to the Space-IoT Box, technical training, mentoring, business development, product and market validation, and investment-readiness support.

The opportunity is designed for entrepreneurs who want to improve an existing crop farming, fish farming or other climate-smart agriculture solution using Copernicus Earth Observation and IoT resources.

🌱 A new milestone for KijaniSpace in Uganda!

Our team has successfully installed a smart field monitoring station in Mayuge District, near the shores of Lake Victoria.

The farm grows maize, bananas, tomatoes, and green peppers and already uses a solar-powered irrigation system supplied by lake water. By adding IoT monitoring, the farm will help demonstrate how local field measurements can be combined with satellite data through the Space-IoT Box to support smarter farming decisions.

This pilot is helping build practical climate-smart agriculture solutions that can benefit farmers across the Lake Victoria Basin.
