Through the medium of Skateboarding, The Pigeon Plan e.V. provides workshops concerning art and expression for disadvantaged youth.
The Pigeon Plan is a project aiming at collecting used skateboards for children from poorer regions around South Africa and Germany. The complete boards that we're collecting will be shared with various institutions. The Pigeon Plan will work with childrens homes, primary schools, and other social services. At each location, a crew of volunteers, skateboarders, and helping hands will provide works
hops, where the kids get taught the basics on a skateboard. Our goal is to share the freedom and comradeship of skateboarding. We will leave the boards with the institutions and are trying to find volunteers to continue the workshops on a regular, continuous basis. Skateboarding is something special and unique; no team, no special training, and only a piece of tar/concrete is needed. Rather than having old boards lying uselessly around at home, they can be put to good use. On a board we learned how to deal socially with others, to see the world differently, and express ourselves through movement; the urban jungle can become your playground. That's what skateboarding is about for us and that is the reason why we want to share our love for skateboarding with the kids of South Africa and Germany. Our workshops will include...
- skateboard basics (pushes/kick-turns /a few tricks)
- skateboard culture (videos/photography/art)
– the joys of social engagement (intergenerational interactions)
- fun and enjoyment
