Back in Crystal Palace recently, it was good to see Mr Paxton at his new home on the restored Italian Terraces. As great as the restoration is, the summer has not been kind to the lawns. Not only drought, but the music festival have wrecked the newly planted grass. The work also puts into focus how much more needs to be done to the park, with much restoration still needed.

A few glimpses inside and out of St Benedict Bed and Breakfast in StLeonards, an authentic Victorian recreation, with an unexpected Russian Orthodox chapel in the garden shed. You can pop along for a tour or for tea and cakes in the garden on Saturdays, or indeed book yourself a stay there.
