As part of the ongoing design work for the Sanitation and Rainwater Project in Al Khalidiya, Iraq, our team held a productive coordination meeting with Dr Ali Dawood Al-Dulaimi, District Commissioner of Al Khalidiya, and representatives of the relevant local authorities and project stakeholders.

Implemented for the Iraqi Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works and funded by AFD - Agence Française de Développement, the project aims to address the pressures associated with Al Khalidiya’s rapidly growing population and the significant shortfall in basic urban infrastructure.

The meeting covered key technical and planning matters needed to progress the design and support the timely delivery of this important infrastructure project.

The Dorsch Impact team sincerely thanks Dr Ali and all participating authorities for their warm welcome, cooperation and continued support. We look forward to maintaining this constructive collaboration and advancing the project for the benefit of the local community.

Access to climate adaptation planning enables cities to turn national ambition into practical action that protects people, ecosystems and urban development over the long term.

We are happy to announce that our Climate and Nature department has been commissioned by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH to implement the LOCAT - Supporting the Localisation of National Climate Aadaptation Targets in Bangladesh project. Our assignment focuses on strengthening the institutional frameworks and operational capacities needed to develop and implement in Chapai Nawabganj and Sirajganj, including vulnerability and risk assessments, participatory planning and implementation planning.

The project is intended to strengthen sub-national climate governance, engage up to 1,500 community representatives across 30 wards, and help ensure that local adaptation priorities reflect the needs of vulnerable groups, including women and youth, while supporting nature-positive urban development.

Enabling long-term conservation finance helps protect biodiversity, strengthen accountable institutions and ensure that environmental investments can deliver lasting results where they are needed most.
We are happy to announce that our Climate and Nature department has been commissioned by the Fondation pour les Aires Protégées et la Biodiversité de Madagascar (FAPBM) to provide technical support on behalf of the FAMINDRA project in Madagascar. The project is financed through funds granted by KfW Development Bank. Our assignment is to strengthen FAPBM’s institutional, financial and operational systems so it can manage growing donor resources transparently and effectively, while better supporting Madagascar’s protected areas system.
The project is intended to strengthen transparent, reliable and scalable conservation finance management, increase fiduciary confidence for international financing partners, enhance monitoring and data governance, and reinforce environmental and social safeguards for more sustainable and resilient conservation outcomes over the long term.

Monitoring forest landscape restoration from a new perspective in the Lagdo Communal Forest
As part of the implementation of Program 8 for Forest Landscape Restoration (RPF-AFR100) of the Basket Fund – FESP in the North Region, a drone flight was conducted over a site currently undergoing restoration within the Lagdo Communal Forest.
The drone strengthens the monitoring and evaluation of forest landscape restoration activities. It also provides precise aerial data (photographs and orthomosaics) and visual content (video footage) to document and showcase progress achieved on the ground.
🌿 The area surveyed includes agricultural plots where the introduction of forest species is combined with Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR). These restoration activities are being carried out with the ONG JAPSSO as the implementing partner.
🎥 The video provides an aerial overview of the site and illustrates how drone technology can concretely support the monitoring and communication of restoration activities and related challenges.
This project, financed by KfW Development Bank aims to restore 2,500 hectares of forest landscapes and degraded lands within the communal forest, which covers a total area of 6,883 hectares, thereby contributing to the broader objective of sustainable land management in the North region of Cameroon.

Suivre la restauration des paysages forestiers sous un nouvel angle dans la Forêt Communale de Lagdo
Dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre du Programme 8 de Restauration des Paysages Forestiers (RPF-AFR100) du Fonds Commun – PSFE dans la Région du Nord, un vol de drone a été réalisé au-dessus d’un site en cours de restauration au sein de la Forêt Communale de Lagdo.
Le drone renforce le suivi et l’évaluation des activités de restauration des paysages forestiers, tout en fournissant des données aériennes précises (photographies et orthomosaïque) et des contenus visuels (séquences vidéos) qui viennent documenter et valoriser les progrès réalisés sur le terrain.
🌿 La zone survolée regroupe des parcelles agricoles où se combinent l’introduction d'espèces forestières et la Régénération Naturelle Assistée (RNA). Ces actions de restauration sont réalisées avec l’ONG JAPSSO comme partenaire de mise en œuvre.

We are happy to announce that our Governance and Economic Development department has been commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH to provide knowledge management, analytical support, and expert advisory services under the MADES-project "Promote compliance with OECD recommendations to improve the performance of public institutions in Peru." Our work focuses on analysing and exchanging knowledge and best practices on regulatory improvement and public service quality at the subnational level, contributing directly to the sustainability and expansion of reform instruments across regional and local governments in Peru.

Throughout, an intersectional, gender-sensitive, and intercultural approach is applied as a cross-cutting principle.

Sound land use planning is one of the most effective instruments communities and governments have to protect forests, secure livelihoods, and meet climate commitments, especially when it is participatory, evidence-based, and locally owned.

We are happy to announce that our Climate & Nature department has been commissioned by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, co-funded by the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) and the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), to support the participatory development and initial implementation of Local Land Use and Sustainable Development Plans (LLUSDP) in four pilot municipalities in Cameroon. Our assignment forms part of the GIZ-implemented module Capacity Building in Land Use Planning in Cameroon (P***T) and covers the full six-phase LLUSDP process from diagnostic and spatial planning through to the launch of priority implementation measures in the municipalities of Ngambe-Tikar, Mfou, Melong, and Akom II.

The work will deliver four validated, gender-sensitive, and climate-resilient LLUSDPs that directly link local territorial governance to Cameroon's national land use framework and international climate commitments, while strengthening the planning capacities of municipal authorities and broadening the participation of women, youth, and Indigenous peoples in land-use decision-making.

Development cooperation must reach people where they are, including in high-risk areas such as Mali, where an unpredictable security situation remains a constant challenge.

To enable our project teams across the Mali portfolio to supervise, track, and verify field activities even when direct site access is restricted, we work with a Remote Monitoring, Management, and Verification (RMMV) system. This keeps implementation on track while ensuring transparent, credible reporting to clients, donors, and stakeholders.

Recently, our RMMV champion for the Mali portfolio, Moctar Bah, together with Dr Jennifer Provost, Project Manager at Dorsch Impact and international RMMV expert, presented the RMMV system developed for the Malian context to technical staff across all departments. RMMV is increasingly being explored across different regions and areas of expertise within the Dorsch Impact portfolio.

🌿 What does it really take to protect nature? 🌿
A question that guides our work at Dorsch Impact GmbH in many projects, and that deserves special highlighting on todays World Nature Conservation Day. More than biodiversity targets and financing mechanisms, it takes trust, communication, and the courage to sit with conflict and work through it.
Our senior expert Bernd Unger has spent three decades doing exactly that. Working across forestry, conservation and natural resource management in fragile contexts from Indonesia to Egypt to Vietnam, he has seen firsthand how the question of who manages natural resources, and how, is rarely just technical. It is, above all, a political and human one.
In a recent interview, Bernd reflects on what effective conservation truly demands:
🌱 Recognising indigenous peoples not as project beneficiaries, but as the most experienced forest managers
🌱 Treating conflict not as a failure, but as an opportunity – if handled professionally
🌱 Understanding that long-term sustainability only emerges when communities genuinely shape the process

Bernd has recently co-authored the chapters on Forests, Agriculture and Natural Resources for Essential Concepts of Environmental Peacebuilding: An A–Z Guide, a landmark reference publication released in June 2026 under the Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx). This glossary offers clear, grounded language for practitioners and policymakers navigating the complex intersection of environment, conflict and peace.
Nature conservation will not succeed without social cohesion. And social cohesion will not hold without meaningful participation and professional conflict resolution.

Accelerating the transition to low-carbon, nature-positive economies requires not only political will, but the right legal, financial and economic conditions for private investment to follow.

We are happy to announce that our Climate & Nature department has been commissioned by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH , funded by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), to deliver legal, financial and economic advisory services in Latin America and the Caribbean as part of the EU EuroClima programme. Together with our consortium partner Como Consult GmbH, we will support the scaling of transformative climate action across five thematic areas: sustainable mobility, energy transition, biodiversity and nature-based solutions, circular and bioeconomy, and water management.

Through targeted regulatory advisory, business model development, financial structuring, and capacity development, the assignment aims to mobilise public and private investment at scale, strengthen the institutional resilience of key target groups, and contribute to more enabling environments for climate investment in support of national and regional climate commitments across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Granting access to safe and dignified sanitation prevents water pollution, serious public health risks, and disproportionate burdens on women and girls.

We are happy to announce that our Water & Agriculture department has been commissioned by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH to support the Mali SANYA Programme. Our assignment focuses on developing the institutional framework and establishing a sustainable financing mechanism for sanitation infrastructure, including conducting a comprehensive feasibility study on financing instruments for the planning, construction, and operation of sanitation facilities across Mali.

This work is expected to contribute to improved sanitation services for over 1.46 million people across 42 municipalities, advancing progress on health, safety, and equity in line with Mali's National Strategy for Emergence and Sustainable Development (SNEDD 2024–2033) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
