🎓Once you find the study programme you’re interested in, you begin worrying about the admission criteria. Before anything else, you will have to meet the criteria set by the university in order to gain admission to that particular programme.

To be admitted to a German university, your qualifications must be recognized by the university you have chosen. What this means is that you need to have a recognized ‘higher education entrance qualification’, also known as Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB) or Abitur. (Learn more about Abitur here). If your school-leaving certificate is not recognized in Germany, you will be required to attend a one-year preparatory course known as Studienkolleg.

Some universities also require an aptitude test, known as TestAS, which is a test specifically designed for international students from non-EU countries.

Language requirements are also among the university admission criteria. If your degree programme is entirely in German, then you will be required to provide proof of German language proficiency such as Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH) or TestDaF. 1. Choose a Study Program:

You must be specific when choosing a study program in Germany because study programs in Germany are very specific, for example, if you want to study computer science you can apply for a bachelor's in general computer science, a bachelor of software engineering, a bachelor of data science, a bachelor of UX or UI design, ext. the same thing for all other programs, so you must be specific when choosing a program to join.

2. Apply For foundation year:

The foundation year is your pathway to free education in Germany, A lot of students think they can just apply to a free public university in Germany and get admission, but they dont know that if you do not have proof of German language knowledge with the level of C1 and pass the entrance exam of public universities they will not be accepted by the university, and here comes the role of the foundation year which will prepare students for public German universities admission.

3. Get your admission letter:

If you do not have the required German language knowledge to get direct admission to a free public university you must get a foundation year admission first and something called conditional admission from a public university, meaning you must have 2 admission letters, but don't worry, most organization offering the foundation course also offer a conditional letter from a public universities.

4. Open a bank account in Germany:

One of the main student visa requirements is to have a German block account with 11000 Euros to cover your life expenses for one year, the accounts should be opened and funded before applying for a student visa, these accounts are opened through online intermediary organizations recognized by the German Government.

5. Apply for student visa:

Before applying for a student visa you must make sure that you have the following documents,

A. Valid passport of at least one year.
B. Admission letter.
C. School leaving certificate and transcript.
D. Blocked bank account in a German bank.
E. Student visa application.
F. Student visa fee payment receipt.
