Yanacek— Rethinking Feeling: On the Renegotiation of Emotions in German Novels at the Fin de Siècle—Holly traces a new history of emotions through the German novel, showing how long before social media existed, literature and art played important roles in negotiating emotions with moral values as well as shaping public cultures of feeling.

🎓JMU German Grad Spotlight: Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Hallie! 🎉Hallie Gentry graduated from JMU with a BS degree in Biology and a German minor. Hallie was a member of the Delta Phi Alpha National German Honor Society. We wish Hallie the best for her post-JMU plans:
“After graduation, I plan on taking a gap year to work in a lab and gain experience before applying to grad school to get a masters and plant biotechnology. Hopefully I will return as a duke for my masters! My time at JMU taught me so many important skills whether it was laboratory techniques like CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, or how to express my thoughts and ideas in the German language, it has all truly been an amazing experience. I will always cherish the memories of my time taking German courses In Keezell Hall, which became like a third home to me, the second being the Bioscience Building. I would especially like to thank Frau Warden and Dr. Yanacek for pushing me to succeed in my German studies. Some of my fondest German minor memories would have to be outdoor German club gatherings, watching new students being inducted into Delta Phi Alpha, and Frau Warden helping me create a German podcast about medicinal plants.”

🎓JMU German Grad Spotlight: Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Joe! 🎉Joe LaPean graduated from JMU with a BA degree in Psychology and a German minor. Joe studied abroad in Fulda, Germany, last summer.
We wish Joe the best for his post-JMU plans:
“I’m planning on attending nursing school, but in the meantime am interviewing for jobs as an emergency department tech!”

🎓JMU German Major Grad Spotlight: Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Abby! 🎉Abby Herbert graduated from JMU with a BA degree and majors in German and International Affairs and a minor in Humanitarian Affairs. Abby was inducted into the Delta Phi Alpha National German Honor Society and held leadership roles in the JMU Student Government Association. Here is Abby’s reflection about her past four years at JMU:
“My time at JMU has been so special and was filled with memories to last me a lifetime. The one place that felt the most welcoming, however, was within the German program! Learning a foreign language is not a difficult task, but it is so rewarding. I am going to miss the environment of my German classes and all of my friends that I’ve made along the way. Post-grad is scary, but JMU Deutsch played a huge part in making me who I am today!”
