The reel I linked brought up the question if reverb is sufficient and resonance chambers are obsolete. Here is in an explanation why reverb doesn’t substitute a good resonance chamber.

Footsteps in games are different than what you think. I use way smaller shoes than what the picture actually shows. A shoot that works in a trailer might be way too big for a locomotion asset. Locomotion is the term for the player movement. Footsteps for player characters have to last 40 hours and more. They can’t be in your face. They have to be subtle and fitting at the same time.
