At Q***r Lindy Festival Cologne, we want to acknowledge that most of us dancing Lindy Hop here in Europe are guests in Black American culture. This dance was pioneered by Black dancers in Harlem in the 1920s and 30s, and it is our responsibility to not only acknowledge that, but to actively promote knowledge about its historical context.
One of the ways to do this is preparing a BOOK CORNER at the festival — a space to sit, browse, and learn about the (q***r) Black artists of the Swing era, the world they created and the more general context in which Lindy Hop was pioneered.
Have you got any opinions on the books we have so far? What are we missing?
