From 4 to 8 May, we are happy to welcome our partners from Italy and Greece to Germany for the 2nd job shadowing activity within the Embrace UAM project. Hosted by Urbanes Kulturteam Ruhr, this activity will bring together VET trainers, youth workers, educators, facilitators, and frontline professionals for a week of exchange, observation, reflection, and peer learning.
During the programme, participants will explore practical methods, inclusive learning approaches, and transferable ideas that can support their daily work with unaccompanied minors. This job shadowing is about learning from each other, sharing experiences across countries, and strengthening professional support for unaccompanied minors across Europe.

Why the Colombi visit matters
Several of the Italian articles highlighted the role of SAI Colombi as a place of practical learning during the Embrace UAM mobility in Rome.
According to the published information, in 2024 the centre hosted around 80 unaccompanied minors; 98% were enrolled in Italian language courses, 73% in school pathways, and 97% were regularised. The coverage also mentions internships, educational activities, and broader community-based support through Welfare Colombi, as well as 1,268 accesses to services by unaccompanied minors in Rome in 2025. These figures show why professional exchange in real settings matters so much.

What the media says about Embrace UAM
The recent media coverage of Embrace UAM in Italy underlined an important message: supporting unaccompanied minors also means supporting the professionals who work with them every day.
The articles highlighted the project’s focus on trauma-informed reception, peer learning, community interaction, and the exchange of practical methods that can be adapted across countries. Rather than simply transferring one model, the aim is to reflect on what works in different contexts and how experience can inspire new approaches elsewhere.

Embrace UAM featured in official & local media
We are pleased to see the Embrace UAM learning mobility in Rome featured by Roma Capitale and several local media outlets.
The coverage highlights the value of European cooperation, job shadowing, and practice-based exchange in strengthening professional support for unaccompanied minors. It also shows how important it is to create spaces where professionals from different countries can learn directly from real working environments and from each other’s experience.

Day 5 | 23.01.2026 | Mental Health & Closing Reflections
The final day of our Embrace UAM mobility was dedicated to working methods related to mental health, including discussions on trauma management, psychological support groups, and psychosocial care.
It was an important opportunity to reflect on the emotional and mental health dimensions of working with unaccompanied minors and to exchange approaches and experiences.
We closed the week with a wrap-up session, final reflections, and planning for the next steps of the project.
A meaningful end to a week full of professional learning, dialogue, and shared inspiration.

Day 4 | 22.01.2026 | From Reception to Independence
On Day 4, the focus was on the journey from reception to greater independence.
We visited semi-independent housing facilities for young migrants who had recently come of age and gained valuable insight into how autonomy and everyday support are fostered in practice.
Later, we explored the historic districts of Municipality III of Rome, where Parsec carries out much of its work. This gave us a broader understanding of the local context in which support services are embedded.
The day ended with a shared social dinner — a great opportunity to continue the exchange in a more informal setting.
