Speaker Announcement 📣
We are excited to announce that Jeffrey Levine, J.D., Ph.D., Associate Clinical Professor at Drexel University (Philadelphia, USA), will be joining our upcoming Global Teaching Excellence online session hosted by ICSSPE, in collaboration with the Ludwigsburg University of Education, Sport Department.
Dr. Levine will contribute to the panel discussion: “Balancing Gold and Green: Sustainability Challenges of the Olympic Games”
🗓 02. July 2025
🕓 02:00 PM (CEST)
Dr. Levine’s research focuses on the intersection of sustainability, human development, and law in both traditional sport and esports industries. He will explore ongoing research into the environmental sustainability provisions in Olympic Host City Contracts, examining whether these commitments function as enforceable legal obligations, or operate more symbolically as tools of reputational legitimacy.
Drawing on sociolegal theory, Dr. Levine critically investigates the legal and governance architecture surrounding major sport events, with particular attention to how institutions like the IOC respond to growing climate scrutiny and stakeholder expectations. His work also addresses climate-related disruptions in sport, such as wildfire smoke and air quality risks, and analyzes the emerging role of legislation like California’s Climate Accountability Package in shaping sport organizations’ environmental responsibilities.
Dr. Levine is also a contributor to the Sustainable Sport Management (SSM) Programme, a pan-European ERASMUS+ research initiative, and serves on the Societal Impact Action Group at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business.
