Today,
SOW - as the ship probably goes somewhere uncertain - sends a big thank you to the man behind the success:
Oliver Kanders, Captain, leader, the man behind each design published and each refugee video.
Oliver was the beating soul of SOW, its first investor: invested time, love, energy and a lot of dedication, to make the refugee topic seen.
Oliver, without you, all the meetings that came from this ship wouldn't have happened. As the ship goes wherever it goes, you are thanked for being the beating soul and true captain of these chapters.
And who knows, we may sail again?
captain-o-captain!

And there is a "secret" component that makes working with others so enjoyable, so fulfilling, it is the essence of any great startup/business/relationship: it is those times we say thank you. That is the kind of businesses we should build, ones that say thank you. Thank you for the learnings, the mistakes. the funny times, the not so funny times, everything, all in one.
While many seem to be more interested in self-promotion and self-thank yous and big likes on social media, many others (and I am grateful I got to know them and learn with them what business truly is about) believe that you build FOR others. You do not build for ego reasons, that isn't leadership, that is modern gold digging with fancy tags and trophies.
You build FOR others. Others. Others. The world revolves around us, all of us, all these amazing others we meet, learn with and sometimes, when you are really lucky, really really lucky, you meet people like the ones I am working with, and they BELIEVE in you, they sail with you wherever the winds will take you. That my friends, no trophy can replace.
For no particular reason (other than the InternationalPirateday), I want to thank you all for the love.
I wanted you to wake up to this loving message so you know how amazing you are.

We agree with this German TV presenter! It is about time to speak up and do something when people can hate on refugees with their full name online and get thousands of likes.

We believe that to understand, one must see. Our videos are encounters with people behind the labels, we give them a face, a name and a voice. It is a powerful way to engage youth into a more compassionate world and hopefully get them to think differently.
The transition from "see" to "understand" to "act" is vital in School Of Why. By engaging students and professionals alike in our projects, we create awareness and give students a chance to learn by doing.

In the first WHY serie we shed light on the situation of refugees in Germany and beyond. We meet people directly and identify their needs to later turn them into social projects.
