For centuries, traditions across the world treated debate as a path to clarity and wisdom. In Athens, Socrates showed that questioning could reveal deeper understanding. Across the world in India, scholars of the Nyāya school distinguished between vada (a discussion to find truth), jalpa (a debate aimed at victory), and vitanda (a destructive debate that only attacks without offering solutions). And in Buddhist monastic debates, practiced for centuries in Tibet, dialogue was cultivated as a discipline to deepen understanding and compassion.

Yet much of the modern debate training has found itself confined to adversarial argumentation. Young changemakers are trained to argue "for' or 'against', as though truth only has two sides and not multiple perspectives.

At Global Debates, we believe it's time to 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆.

Over the past months, our team has been listening, learning, and reimagining how we can better serve debaters, educators, and communities worldwide.

Global Debates Intensive Summer Camps for young people aged 12-17 years in Neukölln, Berlin in the months of July and August. To know more and register, please visit: https://globaldebates.org/calendar

The camp is offered in English and is one of the only such offerings in Berlin.
