This week, Angel and I spoke with Kristy and Bryce who wrote the “Quit Like a Millionaire” book. They graciously agreed to review our portfolio and help us understand whether there are any changes we should be making to the structure as we are looking to live off the investments in some years’ time. Have you considered where your money will be coming from in ten years?
When we created our ten-year vision, we agreed that we wanted to be financially independent by 2030 - to be able to live off our investments or passive income and only do what brought us joy or interests us. I still remember finding out about financial freedom when I was a teenager and thinking that it wasn’t possible for me. If that’s you, it might be closer than you think.
During the review, we realised that we had built up a good runway for our self-employment journey. We had a plan which money to use first and when to start looking for employment again, if we had to. But the most surprising thing was how close we are to living off our investments. A move to a cheaper location could theoretically “set us free” this year. But the key is to make sure you live according to your values, so think about what you really need and want in your life and adjust your saving and spending to that.
So, if you want to be financially independent, this is your sign to start planning it. There are plenty of resources out there, some free like the Rebel Finance School by . They are amazing and have been helping people all over the world take control of their finance.
