Czech Courses Czech Courses Prague - Czech language courses for foreigners

1) Czech Courses Vinohrady
Vinohrad In Letná, you will find us at Pplk.

Our language studio, Czech Courses, was founded in 2011 to offer a wide range of Czech language courses for foreigners. We wanted to have a cozy and friendly place right in the centre of Prague where we ourselves would like to spend our free time. We knew that the Czech classes had to be fun, effective and led by professionals, but also very flexible, allowing our students to start their courses w

henever they had time to do so, and register for the duration of their choosing.

Why choose Czech Courses? ACCESSIBLE
You will find us right in the Prague city centre in our classrooms at Vinohradská 18, a five minute walk from Muzeum metro C station and right next to the Italská tram stop. Sochora 15, a few steps from the Strossmayerovo náměstí in Prague 7. FLEXIBLE
We run a flexible month-by-month Czech language programme, with extra discounts for those who sign up in advance for three months or more. On top that, if you miss your class for whatever reason, you can make up for it in the same month with a group of the same level! FUN
We think that you'll learn the most if you enjoy what you do. Our open, interactive and energising family-size Czech lessons just won't let you take a nap. The maximum size of a regular class is 8 students only!

💬 What our students say about Tereza's classes:

✅ Jorvik: "The teacher, Tereza H., is a professional and truly cares about students. Each lesson was well planned and organised. I’m no big fan of course books, so I was happy that lessons were integrated with various activities and games. We practised the language effectively and I felt active and engaged."

✅ Aleksandra: "What truly made the course successful and valuable, though, was our teacher - Tereza H. She managed to make our three-hour classes feel dynamic and engaging, even when learning Czech grammar :) She had excellent control over the flow of each lesson, skillfully adapting to the number of participants and the overall energy of the group."

✅ Leonardo: "A special mention goes to my amazing teacher, Tereza, who truly made the difference. Her super teaching skills, patience, and encouragement helped me grasp the language much faster than I anticipated."

We often get asked what course works best for faster progress in Czech. 🇨🇿

For many, we suggest intensive courses – regular classes, clear structure, and enough contact with the language to really build confidence.

To give a clear sense of your level, show what the course is like, and let you start making progress right away with no pressure, we suggest what students love:

➡️ online 1-to-1 assignments &
➡️ FREE trial lessons (in-class or online)
https://czechcourses.cz/czech-for-foreigners-free-zoom-test-meeting

Students usually join intensive courses for important reasons:

- Better job opportunities

- Finishing A2 for permanent residence or B1 for citizenship

- Stepping out of the expat bubble

- Helping kids at Czech school

- Navigating the Czech part of a partner’s family

Or simply for the beauty of the language – which we totally agree with! 😉

Intensive courses at Czech Courses:
✅ Small groups (max 8 students)
✅ All levels, including advanced B2
✅ Flexible booking: as little as 2 weeks, or week by week
✅ Longer-term gives better continuity, stronger progress, and savings

The results we see are often incredible – we genuinely admire everyone who starts (or continues) this learning journey.

🇨🇿 Meet Adéla, one of our amazing Czech tutors at Czech Courses!

We asked her a few questions about teaching Czech — and her answers are just too good not to share. 💬

1️⃣ How long have you been teaching Czech?
I started teaching Czech 15 years ago when Czech Courses first opened its doors. Then I took a maternity break (because babies are demanding little language learners themselves), and I've been back in the classroom for the past 4 years.

So all in all, I’ve spent quite a bit of time explaining why Czech has seven cases and watching students’ faces when they realize I’m serious. 😅

2️⃣ What topics can be challenging to explain at A2 level?
Declensions are definitely the monster under the bed for most students, but honestly, they're not the biggest deal. If you mess up an ending, we’ll still get what you’re trying to say.

But verbs? Now that’s where the real drama happens! Use the wrong tense or person, and suddenly you’re telling me you were a cat instead of you have a cat. Big difference! 🐈

Aspect (vid) is the real troublemaker that follows students from A2 all the way up. It’s a completely new concept — their languages express completed actions differently, so wrapping their heads around perfective vs. imperfective verbs is like learning to juggle while riding a unicycle. 🤹‍♀️

And here’s a quirky one: students constantly struggle with phrases like “jsem pozdě” (“I am late”) or “ona je 20” (“she is 20”).

Even advanced students — bright, talented people — sometimes insist on saying “mám rád odpočívám” instead of “rád odpočívám.” It’s like a universal student glitch!

And don’t get me started on “mám 2 kočky” vs “mám 5 koček” — students look at me like I personally betrayed them when they learn the ending changes based on numbers.

"You mean the ending changes because of HOW MANY cats?!"
Yes, my friend. Welcome to Czech. 🐾

3️⃣ Are there any Czech words your students tend to use wrong as “false friends”?
Classic false friends strike all the time, but most mistakes are more like direct translation disasters. The whole “I am late” / “jsem pozdě” thing is a constant battle, as is “she is 20” / “ona je 20”.

If we’re talking actual false friends, watch out for words that look familiar but mean something totally different in Czech — like “aktuální” (current, not actual) or “prezervativ” (leads to some hilariously awkward moments when students talk about food preservatives).

4️⃣ What do your students love most about life in Prague?
They rave about the low prices (well, lower than in Western Europe anyway!), the excellent public transport (trams are basically a religion here 🚋), and of course — the beer. 🍺 Cheaper than water and better than most fancy craft brews? Students are living their best lives.

But here’s what surprises me every time: they also say Czechs are nice! I know, I know — we have a reputation for being grumpy, but students insist that once you break through the initial reserve, Czechs are warm and helpful. Who knew? ❤️

5️⃣ What do you personally like most about being a tutor at Czech Courses?
Honestly? I love meeting new people constantly. Every class brings a fresh mix of cultures, perspectives, and stories. I learn about their countries, their languages, their weird food combinations (why do some people put pineapple on pizza? Still investigating 🍍).

Teaching keeps me on my toes. Students ask the most wonderfully bizarre questions like:
"Why does Czech have a word for ‘the day after tomorrow’ (pozítří) but English doesn’t?"
or
"Is there a logical reason for verb aspect, or did someone just make it up to torture us?"

Every day is different, every student brings something new, and there’s nothing like that moment when a concept finally clicks and you see their face light up. That’s the good stuff right there! ✨

P.S. If any of my students are reading this:
✅ Yes, you still need to learn all seven cases.
❌ No, I won’t make exceptions.
✅ Yes, I know it’s hard.
❌ No, complaining in perfect Czech grammar won’t get you out of homework. Nice try though! 😄

🧠 Is the Eiffel Tower really taller than Petřín Tower? Was Rihanna filming a music video at I. P. Pavlova? And how many shrimp live in the Vltava River?

Finding the right answers wasn’t easy, but Quiz Night at Czech Courses wasn’t about winning- it’s about all the great people who come together to have fun: students, tutors, and friends.
