Really enjoyable to spend the afternoon in Brandys Nad Labem at the 14th Century castle and its garden area, where we spotted a huge number of pheasants in one place.

Did you know that pheasant can be difficult to hunt because pheasants as a whole are known to have excellent eyesight as well as great hearing. They are able to detect predators and get away from them by running between 8 and 10 miles per hours or flying up to 35 miles per hour.

A wonderful day spent at Ještěd Tower Liberec.

Fascinating to know that Ještěd Tower is a television transmitter on the top of Mount Ještěd near Liberec in the Czech Republic. It is 94 m (308 ft) high and is made of reinforced concrete shaped in a hyperboloid form. It took three years to finalize the structure design (1963–1966). The construction itself took seven years to finish (1966–1973).

The hyperboloid shape was chosen since it naturally extends the silhouette of the hill and, moreover, well resists the extreme climate conditions on the summit of Mount Ještěd.

We had a welcome visitor over the weekend, as he was keen to eat the cat food on our patio.

Interesting to know that the hedgehog was named because of its peculiar foraging methods. These animals root through hedges and other undergrowth in search of the small creatures that compose the bulk of their diet—insects, worms, centipedes, snails, mice, frogs, and snakes.

Although their eyesight is poor, they have good hearing and a well-developed sense of smell. Hedgehogs are good runners, proficient climbers and can even swim.

Relaxing time spent yesterday afternoon at Pruhonice Park and the wonderful gardens inside.

Did you know that Pruhonice Park is home to 1,600 different kinds of plants, including 8,000 rhododendrons (one of the largest collection in the world) and a unique 3-hectar Alpinum, as well as ponds and streams, 25 kilometers of pathways and a beautiful castle complex with its old church dating from 12th century.

Great Bank Holiday Monday spent in Mnisek pod Brdy, with clear blue skies and wonderful woodland walks overlooking the town and its historical castle.

Interesting to know that the first written mention of Mníšek pod Brdy is from the year 1348, when the existence of the castle is first highlighted.

Great weekend spent in Cheb and of course the chance to visit the medieval town of Loket and to see the gothic style castle, located in West Bohemia.

Did you know that Loket castle is a 12th-century Gothic style castle about 12 kilometres from Karlovy Vary on a massive rock in the town of Loket, Karlovarský kraj. It is surrounded on three sides by the Ohře river. Once known as "the Impregnable Castle of Bohemia", because of its thick walls, it is one of the oldest and most valuable historical stone castles in the Czech lands.

Wonderful long weekend spent in the UNESCO royal heritage site of Litomyšl.

Interesting to know that the first written mention of Litomyšl is from 981. It is a record in Chronica Boemorum mentioning the death of Duke Slavník. Litomyšl was originally a protective fortified settlement of the Slavník dynasty principality on a significant trade route from Bohemia to Moravia. In 1259, Litomyšl was promoted to a town by King Ottokar II of Bohemia.

Highly recommended to visit The National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square in Prague.

Did you know that The National Museum is a Czech museum institution intended to systematically establish, prepare, and publicly exhibit natural scientific and historical collections. It was founded in 1818 by Kašpar Maria Šternberg. Historian František Palacký was also strongly involved in the foundation of the museum.
