One part of my job which I really enjoy is to help my students to write their CV in English and motivation letters/cover letters for their university applications and job applications.
The British CV differs in severals aspects to the Czech way of thinking, and I like helping people to find and formulate their personal skills and qualities.
It is a lovely job

I have got lovely students!
One group invited me, as a goodbye party, to a veggie restaurant and gave me caring presents. A week before, they even secretly found out which kinds of tea do I like. I am gonna miss them

As I promised - the results are here:
1) The usual size of a bottle of milk is - to my surprise: 3,7 liters!
One gallon... (Yes, you can buy a smaller one, half gallon, but for nearly the same price as the big one. Everything in the US is huge!)
2) Driving is slower in the US, even on their super-straight highways. Usually 65 miles per hour = 105 km/h. Sooo boring :-)
3) orange hand = stand, white figure = walk. For more times I was just waiting and waiting for a green light :-)
4) Yeps, there are PUMAS around Grand Canoyn. Luckily, the only one I saw was on that traffic sign. ;-)

In last two lessons we enjoyed to play with the topic „The USA“, based on my trip to the US, with one of my copany groups.
I share a few questions that came in the „guessing game“ – and you can join in too :-)
1) How big is a typical bottle of milk in the USA? (in mililitres)
2) What is the usual speed limit on highways in west US? (faster or slower than in Europe? How many miles /km per hour?)
3) On what signs on traffic lights do you have to stop / walk at a zebra crossing as a pedestrian? (it is not a red and green figure) → What signs do they have on the traffic lights?
(you can draw and create your version ;-))
Bonus: 4) Whom can you meet in next 10 miles? :-) (see the picture - from the road at Grand Canyon)

Dear students,
I am back from the United States.
I have been inspired so many times, I have met many interesting people, I have had many interesting conversations, I have seen places which I hadn´t even been able to imagine before, and I have also learnt new things about myself.
I am happy to be back and I am looking forward to continuing with my beloved job.

Dear current and potential students,
even teachers need practicing languages and also teachers need holidays. I combine both, trying to visit an English-speaking country every year. This year – the USA.
Soon I am leaving on a journey through American national parks, so from 8/8 to 4/9 I won´t be available for you.
If you have any questions, or if you are interested to get lessons with me from September 2017, feel free to write me an e-mail ([email protected]) – I will get to it as soon as I can after my arrival. If you want to have lessons with me, you can directly write your time possibilities, as I will be creating the new schedule in the first week of September. So you can already try to book a place.
I wish you a very lovely summer,
and I am looking forward to the new school year then!

Today, one of my students, who I really liked to work with, finished. He came 1,5 years ago with a dream to study at university in Great Britain.
We worked hard, our lessons included not only preparation for the language certificate and leaving exam, but also choosing of a summer language course in England, lot of discussion about universities and studies in UK, searching for a summer job, making a CV, training for a job interview, and also a lot of good talks in English.
And now, he is leaving to England, going to study International Business Management.
Yep, I am gonna miss this student. 105 x 90 minute lessons together, that is a decent amount of time.
So, good luck, dear Honza, on your life way.
