Some of our students elected to create posters about products that are commonly thrown out, but can be repaired. Each of the selected posters deals with a specific product. Each poster is connected to the larger theme of sustainability.

Our school partnered with the U.S. Embassy here in Cyprus to host an event for students involved in our project. At this event, we had two guest speakers. The first speaker, Benjamin Witorsch is a Political-Economic officer in the U.S. Embassy. The second speaker, Anna Agrotou is a local environmental expert who works as a Commercial Specialist in the U.S. Embassy. The guest speakers covered a wide variety of topics related to the environment and sustainability. The students felt privileged to have been informed by experts in the field!

Our park clean-up.

28/02/2024

We initiated a local park clean-up to which we invited students from other programs of our school to participate. We quickly became aware of how much garbage is hidden behind bushes and low vegetation. We also sadly realized how much of this waste is actually recyclable, since most of what we collected could be recycled. Clearly, more recycling bins are needed in parks and more awareness especially among young people in the community of how much harm is being done to our environment. These issues are very much related to our R of responsibility.

The EU/UK Youth Stronger Together for Social Action project aims to facilitate a close and sustainable relationship between young people in the UK and the EU for Europe's collective benefit. It is based on the collaboration between students in different countries working together with the aim of acquiring knowledge and raising awareness within the school community as well as the broader community about a social issue. Our subject was CLIMATE AND SUSTAINABILITY.
We joined a group consisting of 4 countries: the UK, Croatia and Latvia. Our common project focused on the 10 R's of Sustainability. Our school Ethnomartiras Kyprianos Lyceum had to specialise on the R's of Responsibility and Repair. Follow us to see our action.

Our students prepared questions and conducted a series of interviews with local repair shop owners about the importance of their work and how it relates to sustainability. Conclusions were drawn and action taken to bring matters to the attention of policy makers
