Meet the OneStory Characters 🧠💬

Yasmin 🎨 14 years old, Syrian, now living in Nicosia. She arrived not knowing the language and still deals with being mocked for her accent and left out by classmates. Art is how she expresses herself. Her story is about starting over, holding onto who you are, and finding your place somewhere new 🖌️

Viktor 🎧 15 years old, Cypriot/Bulgarian, and living in Limassol. Born and raised in Cyprus, yet still treated like an outsider, Viktor is mocked for his surname, constantly marginalised, and even pushed out of group chats online. Track and field and music are his ways of coping and finding a sense of belonging. His story explores identity, exclusion, and the emotional cost of trying to hold everything together 🏃

🎨 Meet Yasmin.

She's 14. She moved from Syria to Cyprus a few years ago. She loves drawing, but lately, school has become a place where she feels like she doesn't belong.

Yasmin is the first interactive AI character in OneStory; an AI empathy simulator designed to help young people explore real-life experiences through meaningful conversations.

Every story has a voice. Every voice deserves to be heard.

To celebrate the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), we are highlighting the women shaping and driving innovation at Technologos ⚙️

From early career engineers to leadership, our team reflects a shared belief: technology should be inclusive, diverse, and driven by purpose.

Our founder and director, Anastasia Eleftheriou, has led numerous European initiatives across AI, digital safety, sustainability and social impact, and continues to build technology that empowers communities through Technologos 🚀 Holding a First-Class Honours degree in Computing from Imperial College London and a PhD in Complex Systems Simulation from the University of Southampton, she is an award-winning communicator recognised nationally and internationally.

Kalli, senior software designer 👩‍💻, holds an MEng in Computing from Imperial College London 🎓 and has worked as a Software Engineer at Amazon Development Centre London. She now focuses on immersive technologies at Technologos and CYENS Centre of Excellence, building extended reality applications using Unity and Unreal Engine 🕶️

Chloe, our software engineering intern joining us this summer, is a final-year student in Mathematics and Statistics at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) 📚. With a strong passion for Artificial Intelligence, she shares that “anything is possible” and that no gender label should limit our goals or ambitions 💪

Together, their journeys highlight the many paths into engineering and the importance of representation in shaping the future of technology.

As part of the FemPowered Islands Erasmus+ project, we at Technologos hosted our own focus group in Cyprus 🇨🇾, bringing together women entrepreneurs and professionals to share their experiences, challenges and insights around work, leadership and opportunity 💼

The discussion was open, honest and thought provoking, highlighting both how far things have come and how much work still remains.

A few quotes that stood out:

💬 "It takes a lot of commitment, long hours, patience and discipline," but "if you find something that you love to do, it doesn't matter if it's your initiative or someone else's, you are happy to do so".

💬 "Years back you would not find women in male-dominated roles like the police or you would find 1 female doctor in 100 male doctors. Things are better now, but we are still many years behind".

We are grateful to everyone who took part and shared their voice. Conversations like these are essential in building stronger, more inclusive communities across island regions.
