Archaeology thrives on dialogue, shared ideas, and community.

As the 2026 field season comes to a close, we want to look back at one of the most rewarding parts of our work at Erimi: the invaluable exchange with a stimulating research environment.
We were absolutely thrilled to welcome so many colleagues, friends, and institutional guests to our site this year!
A truly special moment of this season was the visit of the Italian Ambassador to Cyprus, H.E. Antonella Cavallari Embassy of Italy in Nicosia . We are deeply grateful for her support, sincere collaboration, and shared commitment to enhancing bilateral cultural relations between Italy and Cyprus. 🇮🇹🤝🇨🇾
It was a true privilege to share our ongoing results and preliminary interpretations as new evidence came to light from both the Middle Bronze Age settlement and the funerary cluster. A massive thank you to Lindy Crewe, Alison South, and the CAARI crew, and to Yiannis Kypri for their visits and support.
Special thanks to Evi Margaritis Evi Margaritis who not only visited but also presented the latest results of the paleobotanical analyses conducted on Erimi’s deposits at The Cyprus Institute STARC!
Our deepest gratitude also goes to Yiannis Violaris and our colleagues at the Τμήμα Αρχαιοτήτων Κύπρου, Department of Antiquties Cyprus Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού / Deputy Ministry of Culture —their expertise and continuous support are fundamental to everything we do.

Yet, this project feeds, above all, on the constant debate and brainstorm within our own research team. From this collective passion, our vision takes shape, allowing us to reconstruct and closely experience the life of the incredible prehistoric community we have the privilege to study (and imagine)!

The Erimi Archaeological Project is moving forward the fieldwork and lab works. Our team is working hard across two extraordinary Middle Bronze Age areas.
On the hilltop: We are reconstructing the complex building sequence and occupation phases, focusing closely on the Central Building.
In the Southern Cemetery: Investigations are ongoing in the coeval necropolis to understand mortuary practices of this Bronze Age community.
In the lab: Our experts are analyzing paleobotanical and anthropological remains, alongside the preliminary study of artifacts.
This journey is made possible by our incredible, multicultural team of archaeologists. Together, a terrific modern community is bringing to light an equally extraordinary and dynamic prehistoric community!

History is resurfacing, one layer at a time!
The field season is in full swing for the Erimi Italian Archaeological Project, and our team is pushed by an incredible energy to bring Cyprus Bronze Age back to life!
Every corner of the site is buzzing with fresh new results:
In the settlement area: Excavations are progressing inside the Middle Bronze Age Central Building, revealing new details about the social and spatial organization on top of the hill.
In the Southern Funerary Cluster: Work is underway to investigate community funerary practices.
In the Labs: Research never stops! Our specialists are busy analyzing osteological and paleobotanical remains to reconstruct daily life and environments. Meanwhile, the 3D Topographic Lab is actively digitizing the site, creating high-precision digital models of our findings.
Beyond the Trenches: Education and dialogue are core to our mission. Our supervisors and expert team members are leading specialized seminars to share insights, debate theories, and mentor new team members.
This incredible journey is made possible by the unique spirit of exchange and the exceptional work of a truly multidisciplinary….and deeply enthusiastic team. Together, we are piecing Middle Bronze Age back together!

Season 2026: officially underway!
🇨🇾 🇮🇹 Erimi Italian Archaeological Project kicks off our 2026 field season! Our multicultural team is back on the ground, ready for an exciting journey into the living past of a challenging Bronze Age community.
This incredible work wouldn’t be possible without our amazing network of institutions and partners.

Transforming Legacy Data into New Knowledge: Unlocking Ayia Irini–Paleokastro

We are delighted to announce the launch of “Unlocking the Legacy of Ayia Irini–Paleokastro”, a new two-year research project coordinated by Luca Bombardieri and Marialucia (Mia) Amadio and supported by a major grant from the Shelby White and Leon Levy Program for Archaeological Publications at Harvard University .

The project brings renewed focus attention to Ayia Irini–Paleokastro, Necropoli a mare, a key Late Bronze Age funerary area excavated in the early 1970s by the Italian Archaeological Mission of the CNR CNRsocial, in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, then directed by Vassos Karageorghis.

Located in an area inaccessible to archaeological fieldwork since the Turkish military occupation of 1974, Ayia Irini preserves an extraordinary archaeological legacy. Fifty years later, its collections, excavation records, photographs, drawings, and archives can be revisited through new questions, multidisciplinary approaches, and advanced digital documentation.

The project renews a long-standing tradition of archaeological cooperation between Italy 🇮🇹 and Cyprus 🇨🇾 bringing an exceptional Bronze Age funerary landscape back to the centre of Mediterranean archaeology.

An exciting chance to learn and share fresh results and perspectives.
Our research brings the vital contribution of Cyprus to the broader Mediterranean narrative. Through the key-case of Erimi’s settlement circuit wall, we are uncovering how complex societies emerged in the Middle Bronze Age.
This isn’t just about ancient fortifications, it’s about understanding the resilience of the Mediterranean communities who built them.

Unlocking Bronze Age Cyprus, one discovery at a time.

Yesterday, at the Annual CAARI Workshop in Nicosia, the Erimi Archaeological Project proudly presented the latest results of the 2024 and 2025 field seasons, highlighting new insights from a key Middle Bronze Age community in Cyprus.

We warmly thank CAARI and the ARU of the University of Cyprus for hosting this stimulating event. Our deepest gratitude goes to the Department of Antiquities Cyprus, Deputy Ministry of Culture, for its constant support and collaboration, and especially to the Director and the Archaeological Officers of the Limassol District, whose commitment makes our work possible.

We are also grateful to MAECI – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy – and to the Italian Embassy in Nicosia for their continued support.

Research at Erimi continues to be an exciting journey, where every season brings new challenges, new questions, and new perspectives on the rich and complex history of Bronze Age Cyprus.
