Following its presentation during the Opening Event of the ClimAid project, the Open Call for Museums and Cultural Organisations in Cyprus remains open until 30 November.

The Open Call invites interested institutions to take an active role in shaping future strategies for climate resilience and to benefit directly from the tools developed within the project.

Participating museums and cultural organisations will have the opportunity to contribute to the co-design and application of the methodologies and digital tools being developed, helping ensure that they reflect the real needs and challenges of the sector.

The Opening Event of the research project ClimAid, with the title “Climate Resilience for Museums and Cultural Institutions in Cyprus – From Research to Action” took place on 17 October 2025, bringing together museum professionals, policymakers, researchers, and cultural stakeholders to explore how Cypriot museums can become more resilient in the face of climate change.

Participants were introduced to the project’s aims and expected outcomes, as well as to the Open Call for Museums and Cultural Institutions, which invites museums to join selected project activities and directly benefit from the project’s results and tools.

During the event, Dr Maria Shehade, Project Coordinator of ClimAid and Senior Researcher at CYENS presented the project’s vision and activities, Dr Andreas Kamilaris, Research Director of Periopsis introduced the audience to the effects of climate change on Cyprus and Dr Panagiotis Ntzeremes, Research Associate at CYENS presented the details of the ClimAid Open Call for Museums and Cultural Institutions.

A warm thank you to the Deputy Mayor of the Nicosia Municipality, Mr Chrysanthos Fakas, the Director of the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture, Dr Ioanna Hadjicosti, and the Research Director of CYENS, Dr Fotis Liarokapis for addressing the audience.

We also extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, shared insights, and supported this important step toward a sustainable and climate-resilient future for Cyprus’s cultural heritage. 🌍

🎉 The ClimAid project is officially underway!

The kick-off meeting of the ClimAid project was held on June 19th 2025, at the premises of the CYENS Centre of Excellence, the project’s Host Organisation.

The meeting brought together the entire ClimAid team from all partner organizations — the CYENS Centre of Excellence, the Τμήμα Σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού Κύπρου/ Department of Contemporary Culture CY and Periopsis — to initiate collaboration, align priorities, and outline the first stages of implementation.

The meeting marked the beginning of our collaborative journey to support a sustainable climate transition for Cypriot museums and a chance for all partners to share insights from their diverse fields and explore ways to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration across research, policy, and practice.

We are pleased to announce the official launch of ClimAid: Promoting a Sustainable Climate Transition for Cypriot Museums, a research project dedicated to supporting the climate transition of the museum sector in Cyprus.

Led by CYENS Centre of Excellence, ClimAid brings together a dynamic consortium with the Τμήμα Σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού Κύπρου/ Department of Contemporary Culture CY and Periopsis, aiming to equip museum professionals, institutions, and policymakers with a decision-support tool to support their transition toward climate resilience and environmental sustainability.

The project aspires to set a new standard for climate resilience in museums, combining technological innovation, cultural sensitivity, and strategic stakeholder engagement to safeguard and enhance the cultural heritage of Cyprus for future generations.

ClimAid has secured funding under the Excellence Hubs call and is implemented under the Programme of Social Cohesion “THALIA 2021–2027”, co-funded by the European Union through the Research and Innovation Foundation.
