On September 9, 2021, at the Tehnološko-Metalurški Fakultet Beograd Dr. Jean-Olivier Durand from Institut Charles Gerhardt, Montpellier talked about “ Mesoporous Nanoparticles for Photodynamic Therapy, Drug and Gene Delivery, and Heavy Metal Removal ”.

Dr Jean-Olivier Durand graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris in 1990 and obtained his PhD in organic chemistry with Prof. J. P. Genêt in 1993. He spent a 20 month post-doctoral position with Prof. W. Oppolzer at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). After two other post-doctoral studies in Rennes (Prof. M. Le Corre) and Paris (Dr M. Larchevêque), he was appointed as a CNRS researcher in 1996 at the Laboratoire de Chimie Moléculaire et Organisation du Solide, Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier and is now research director at CNRS since 2012. He is co-founder of Start-Up NanoMedSyn. His research interests include the development of mesoporous nanoparticles (silica and silicon-based) for theranostic applications, photodynamic therapy, and drug delivery. He particularly studied two-photon light-triggered systems. He is co-author of 133 publications and 14 patents.

Dr Sanja Seslija, member of the Serbian Chemical Society, Division of Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecules, has spent five weeks at the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana, Slovenia, as one of the representatives of Serbia in this year's edition of the EIT Climate-KIC program „Pioneers into Practice“ implemented by Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia. The main placement goals were directed toward the promotion of the re-use practices of agricultural waste and the foundation of positive socioeconomic effects of the scientific concept in which novel value is created from waste and polluting materials. The conducted research activities included extraction of pectin from waste apple pomace using conventional solvents, ionic liquids, and deep eutectic solvents (DES) and physico-chemical characterization of isolated product. This collaboration has joined together expertise and knowledge from renowned scientific institutions and set the ground for future development of more sustainable production of chemicals and environmental protection.
